I used to stay here back when it was the Great Expectations, so I knew pretty much what to expect. They've completely gutted the restaurant downstairs (which looks really good, but I didn't get a chance to try it), but not yet done anything with the accommodation.
So, yeah, it's a little tired. No hotel staff around when I checked in so had to go to the restaurant where I was handed a keycard with no further word or information. The room was clean apart from a partially-flushed toilet on arrival. The bed was very uncomfortable and seemed to consist of springs and little padding, not that I minded much as by the time I went to bed I was suitably numbed by alcohol.
My (very small) double room wasn't noisy, had tea coffee and water, a TV, and an ensuite with a decent hot shower. Everything I needed for a comfortable-enough budget overnight stay on my own.
