Book online to save the queues. You can visit the Library of Congress afterward, without going through security again. DON'T TAKE FOOD OR DRINK WITH YOU, IT WILL HAVE TO BE DISPOSED OF.

Very good free tours available to pre book or you might be able to get on one on the day

You can pre book free tours which is worth it . We managed to get tickets on the day to go in the house and senate . You just need to ask and take photo ID

The guided tour takes you around the building but only so much. You have to ask to see the House chamber. THis is free but you need a pass from a different desk and need some photo id in order for it to be issued.

Book online pass before you go. International visitors take passport on the day to gain passes to Senate and House of Representatives. Well worth seeing as not included in Capitol tour
