The Red Door Cottage on Big Star Lake, Sleeps 8!

Your perfect getaway starts here when you step into The Red Door Cottage! This open loft style home features panoramic views of the Big Star Lake Bayou through the large two story picture windows. The Red Door Cottage is a cozy family vacation residence with a private site directly on the bayou of Big Star Lake, which is an all sports lake, offering great fishing, boating and swimming. You will have full access to the private dock for your boat as well as access to 4 standard Kayaks, 1 Tandem Kayak, and a canoe for full family fun! Lifejackets are also provided. The Cottage boasts a gourmet kitchen for those vacationers who love to cook, gorgeous wood cabinets, a dishwasher, and eat in bar seating. Accommodations for 8 guests include the Master bedroom with a luxurious king bed, the loft with additional king bed and twin bed and 3 twin beds on the lower level walkout. For your comfort, we also provide central air and WiFi with streaming. Pets are welcome! Additional fee of $100/pet will apply. 2 pet maximum, please send inquiry for more than 2 pets to secure approval prior to booking.

The Red Door Cottage provides the perfect setting for year-round activities or just relaxing and enjoying the seasonal splendor of northern Michigan. The Red Door has it all: water frontage, beautiful views, a fire pit, a gas grill, and a deck overlooking it all for relaxing at day’s end while enjoying spectacular sunsets! Sit back, relax and enjoy your time on Big Star Lake.

Nearby attractions include access points to Pere Marquette River, a world renowned trout stream and great for canoeing and kayaking, as well as a Trailhead to the North Country National Scenic Trail. The public boat launch on Big Star Lake is only a 1/4 mile away. The town of Baldwin is approximately 15 minutes away and Ludington is approximately 45 minutes away.

NOTE: The bayou frontage is not suitable for swimming but is perfect for docking your boat. However, there are lots of great swimming areas accessible by boat!

Great location and super clean.

Pictures are exactly what you get. Well kept and super clean. Like new house and newer gas grill. Quick trip from Bayou to lake. Water is a couple feet deep at dock but no worries to get to main lake. Soft bottom mixed with sand lake with lots of Big Fish. The lake is large and most of lake is under 15 foot deep with lots of fish cover. Everyone in group had a great time and house is easy to get to on a paved road. Zero complaints and everything met expectations. For sure great for fishing. May not catch a ton but what was caught was impressive.

Kayaking & Boating from the Red Door Cottage

We enjoyed kayaking early in the day & boating in the heat of the day. We indulged the bayou experience seeing eagles, herons and river otters & more. It was awesome!

Wonderful stay at Red Door Cottage!

Beautiful cottage, spotlessly maintained! 100% as described. Beautiful view of "the bayou" with the fall colors. 2 pair of binoculars available for bird watching was a great perk! We watched a snowy egret AND a bald eagle fishing in the waters...awesome! Only downside was lots of Canadian geese AND tons of their droppings down by the dock and fire ring which made us stay up closer to the house or our dog would have been rolling in it evey day. Hey, nature is nature! They were fun to watch coming in for landings in the bayou!! Highly recommend this property!!

Peaceful Getaway

We really enjoyed our week. GPS is correct for this location. Plenty of parking. Very nice house, great condition and very clean. House is stocked well with supplies and kitchen necessities. Great having a washer and dryer. Very nice view of the bayou. Lots of wildlife viewing, especially Canadian Geese which love the lawn, so watch your step. Nice dock for your boat, but take caution on the bayou, it’s very a shallow. Once you get out to the main lake, it’s very nice and plenty of depth. If you like to golf, there is a very nice golf course about 5 minutes away, which they serve breakfast too. You’ll be happy with your stay.

Peaceful setting

We had our kids and grands there for a summer get together. The house was very clean and had everything we needed. The lake is beautiful and peaceful. Saw a bald eagle fly right over the dock carrying a fish. Thanks for sharing your home!

4th of July Cottage time

The cottage was a lovely spot on the gulch. Pictures are very accurate. We very must enjoyed are stay. Only negative was the amount of dog hair on the furniture- hard for my children with allergies.

Fantastic relaxing getaway

The cabin is exceptionally clean and well appointed. We were definitely not left wanting regarding cooking, dining and cleaning supplies. Great thoughtful touches such as kayaks, canoes, cornhole, games, books, bluetooth speakers and Smart TVs with Roku guest mode. The location is stuck back in the marshy area of the lake, which may not be ideal for everyone, but there is a dock and you can get a boat in there, so it’s only a short little troll out to the big lake. Not a big deal at all and it ensures a nice quiet experience away from all the lake traffic. We loved it.

Wonderful place, would stay again.

We had a wonderful stay, couldn’t have asked for more. Great location, and everything we could have ever needed in one spot. The back channel was peaceful and quite. Not ideal swimming conditions, but easy access to lake, and location to boat launch. Two full sized bathrooms were a pleasant surprise. Already planning a trip for a return.

Great relaxing property!

Beautiful house nestled in quiet area of lake. Loved how dog friendly as well. We sat outside and enjoyed the peaceful surroundings, watched birds, and enjoyed northern Michigan. The kayaks were clean and fun to use around the lake area. Yard games a bonus as well! Would definitely recommend house and we plan to stay again. Easy drive to Ludington and Silver Lake which we also did while staying for long weekend. Thanks for a great weekend of family memories!

Summer Trip 2023

We had an amazing time! Place was very clean, fully stocked kitchen utensils & supplies. Owners were very responsive when we had questions and they had a full book detailing everything about the place and surrounding area. Beautiful location over looking lake wet lands. Kids had a blast fishing right off the dock catching little fish left and right. We brought a boat and used the dock and bigger part of the lake for tubing and swimming. I grew up coming to this lake and it’s been many years since I have been back. Brought back a lot of great memories that we were able to pass to our kids. Thank you!

We had some difficulty on the first night but ended up having a good stay. On the first night the AC wasn’t working. It was corrected the next day but the first night was rough. The pull out hadn’t been cleaned in a while it was incredibly dusty so we were short a bed. The kitchen was well stocked and so were the games.

Great place to stay!

We really enjoyed staying at this house. Plenty of space in the house and yard. Staying on the bayou was a pretty cool experience too. We docked a pontoon that we had rented and didn't have any issues getting in and out. We even enjoyed a concert on the lake! We would definitely stay again.

Lakeside Retreat

A wonderful house just off Big Star Lake. Great amenities, clean house, really appreciate the kayaks that were available. Fantastic place to stay, and would definitely stay again.

Wonderful lakeside cottage

The cottage was very clean, comfortable and well stocked. We enjoyed sitting by the fireplace on the chilly, rainy nights. Great outdoor areas by the lake.. unfortunately we didn’t get to enjoy them much with the rain. Would definitely stay again and recommend.
