We were happy with the location, but we were made aware very late (2 days before our arrival) that there was construction on the grounds (sea wall repair). The back yard was dug up, trees down, and construction materials everywhere (sawhorses, concrete forms, wood cut-offs, etc), including a flatbed in front of the property with more construction materials strewn at that location. Many light fixtures were without lamps, the bedroom light switch didn't appear to do anything, and the overhead kitchen light switch didn't work consistently without fiddling with it. I spoke with the property owner about the deception I felt regarding the grounds, and she apologized, but the discussion went no further. She assures me that it's back to normal, with new sod, removed down trees, and cleaned-up construction materials, but I have no way of knowing. The owner let us know 2 days before our arrival of the situation, and offered to give us our money back, but at that late date, in Ft Myers area, we were unlikely to find anything in the same price range for the length of our stay. It was an unfortunate situation, as I think with a few fixes and the grounds being as described on the VRBO website, we would likely have been happy, even given the aforementioned items in disrepair. What could have been a very nice trip left me feeling deceived. The owner did give us one free night, but that seemed a drop in the bucket in terms of the deception we felt regarding the property condition. The owner was very accessible and at least willing to entertain a conversation, even if it didn't really go anywhere from our perspective. It's just unfortunate for all - just another case of VRBO property owner's deception regarding their properties - overselling and underperforming - it's not the first time for us. Not sure we'll do VRBO again.
