This house felt like it was designed by someone with only a theoretical understanding of comfort. Inside, the ultra-white lighting gave it the ambiance of a parking garage or big-box store. Outside, the lighting was nearly useless. We eventually discovered the exterior lights were cheap solar fixtures installed over the original electrical boxes, which explained why the wall switches did nothing and why the lights stopped working shortly after sunset. The result: people outside could see in clearly, while anyone inside was left staring into darkness. The yard was completely barren—no shrubs, bushes, or trees anywhere—which only added to the stark, exposed feel. Privacy inside was minimal too, since many windows had no blinds and others had only sheer curtains. Add in rock-hard beds, two comically small rolls of toilet paper, and the requirement to pay two separate security deposits—one through VRBO and another through HappyGuest.ai, with no explanation—and the whole experience started to feel less like hospitality and more like a social experiment.A few maintenance issues sealed it: the dishwasher was improperly installed, wouldn’t open fully, and had no power, and when it rained outside, it also rained inside through the bathroom fan. We had to put the kitchen garbage can under the leak to keep the bathroom from flooding.
