  • We spent yesterday arvo bush-bashing down to the Zig Zag Railway viaducts above Lithgow, NSW and looking around the place for a few hours. In this shot you can see the No. 1 Viaduct on the Top Road track. A little further down is the larger No. 2 Viaduct. And on the Bottom Road (which is the train line near the bottom of this pic) is the No. 3 Viaduct. Comprising rock cuttings, classical sandstone viaducts and tunnels, the Lithgow Zig Zag was, and remains to this day, a magnificent piece of engineering. Construction of this part of the rail system began in 1866 and was completed by the late 1890s. The line was decommissioned in 1910 with the construction of the Ten Tunnels deviation which is still in use today by state rail. Back in the early 1970s, volunteers worked to bring the line back into operation as an iconic tourist railway which ran for decades, bringing with it tourism dollars to the wider Lithgow area. In 2013, a huge bushfire swept through the area and destroyed a lot of the infrastructure and equipment used by the Zig Zag Railway. Since that day work has proceeded to slowly bring the tourist train line back into operation It is hoped it'll be up and running again in the next year or so. Wondeful family getaway

The house was spacious and comfortable. Indoor pool was definitely the highlight because we didn't have to worry about weather. The location was excellent about a 10 min drive from Lithgow. Communication was excellent from the host, I had a question and he got back to me straight away. Added bonus we got to see quite a few a kangaroos in the back. Would highly recommended for a group. I look forward to going there again.

Girls weekend

We loved this property. Lots of areas to lounge and gather together. Pool indoors was amazing as we went in change if season so allowed us to enjoy a swim regardless of the weather.

Host also provided details instructions along with a complimentary bottle of wine and chocolates. Not located to far from shops yet secluded enough away for complete country experience. Exquisitely quiet, kangaroos galaore

A very nice place to stay, kangaroos were grazing at the kids windows morning and night, pool was a massive hit, and all the amenities one could want!!

Awesome Home

We had a fantastic five day stay with 7 family members. The house design was spread out with two lounge areas and it was very spacious and clean. The swimming pool keep us all entertained and the many board games that are also provided. The kids enjoyed toasting marshmallows on the bonfire. The host allowed us to have late checkout which was kind of him and was very responsive when needed. Overall, the property was great and we’ll definitely we back again.

Excellent, very recommendable

Photos didn't do any justice for this place. My husband and our 2 toddlers enjoyed our stay at this place. It was a short family trip but we wish we could have stayed longer. We didn't even got out of the house, we enjoyed the place especially the pool. Shanthan was so prompt in answering our messages, we also had some welcome goodies which was very sweet. We'll surely be back to bring the in-laws.

Wonderful winter stay!

We had a fabulous stay at this property. Great communication and seem less check in process. Perfect for a group of different families. Kitchen could do with a deep clean in cupboards and some more utensils such as measuring cups and serving trays. A drier for the clothes would also be great for winter. Overall we highly recommend and hope to stay again.

Weekend away

We stayed at Clarance homestead over the weekend and had an amazing experience. The house is spacious and well looked after. The host was responsive and provided us with everything we needed. The house is great for two families as it has bedrooms at opposite ends of the house which means as well as staying together you could still have your own privacy. We stayed with family friends and it was the perfect size.
