”Hotel was located on the lakefront so view was beautiful. General condition a bit oldfashioned but never the less good worth for the money. Breakfast basic but with facility to make own waffles which was nice.”

”I almost hesitate to give this a five-star review, because I don’t want the secret to get out – this is the best place to stay in Houghton! Our son is a student at MTU, so we are in the area numerous times a year. We have stayed at various other properties (both Airbnb’s and other hotels), but Independence Stay has become our go-to spot. The property is always immaculately clean, modern, and well-maintained. The staff is friendly. The rooms are comfortable, with just enough kitchen supplies...

”Visited this place for 5 nights. During the first night on weekend this place was rather full or snowmobilist and none of them used a mask in general space (like in breakfast lounge .. even if not eating). Breakfast is horrible (last days I refused to take that even if that was included). Otherwise this hotel is right in the downtown so easy to walk to the uni and other places.”

”Great location where you can walk to downtown Houghton and Hancock easily. Multiple bars and restaurants less than a mile away. Clean, comfortable rooms with great beds and great kitchen set up. Great views in the rooms that open to the deck. The available services including laundry, gym and sauna are great. ”
