In 1859, prospectors fed up with the greed at the Tarryall diggings started their own camp and promised everyone fair play. The name stuck.

Outrider Lodge is named for that frontier spirit. Spend the day out front skiing Breck, climbing a 14er, or casting for Gold Medal trout, then come back to 8 quiet acres at 9,950 feet, ringed by mountains and aspens that turn gold every fall. Mount Silverheels sits just behind the property, and it has a story of its own (see Local History below).

The house has a moody western-lodge feel and works well for families, a few couples traveling together, or friends who want a real base camp.

☆☆ A DAY AT OUTRIDER ☆☆
☀ Morning: make a latte with the Keurig`s built-in frother and take it out to a swinging chair on the lower deck
☀ Day: Breck`s lifts, a 14er, or Gold Medal water with the fly rods from the garage, all within about 40 minutes
☀ Late afternoon: sauna, cold plunge, repeat. Then the hot tub.
☀ Evening: burgers on the grill, a few putts, and s`mores at the fire pit
☀ Night: arcade high scores, popcorn and a movie on the 100` screen, or more stars than you`ve seen in years

☆☆ A LITTLE LOCAL HISTORY ☆☆
✔ Mount Silverheels, just behind the lodge, is named for a dance hall girl from the gold camps who was known for her silver-heeled slippers. When smallpox hit in 1861, she stayed to nurse the sick miners, caught it herself, and disappeared. South Park remembers her as its angel of mercy, and the neighborhood, Silverheels Ranch, carries her name too.
✔ Prunes, Fairplay`s most famous pack burro, worked the mines from 1867 until he died in 1930. His monument still stands on Front Street, and the pack burro race at Burro Days, the last full weekend of July, is run right in front of it.
✔ The South Park City Museum in Fairplay has more than 40 preserved gold-rush buildings you can walk through, from the saloon to the assay office.

✔ 4WD or AWD is required in winter. The driveway is plowed November through April.
✔ The sauna is for ages 14 and up, and anyone under 18 needs an adult with them in the sauna or cold plunge
✔ Outdoor quiet hours are 10 PM to 8 AM. Sound carries up here.
✔ No campfires or charcoal. The gas fire pit and grill are good to go.
✔ Exterior cameras cover the driveway and entry only. There are none inside, and the hospitality Alexa`s camera is off.

Dogs only, 2 max, up to 80 lbs each. Keep them supervised, leashed outside the fenced run, and off beds/furniture. Service animals welcome.

Kids under 14 need an adult in the hot tub, sauna, and cold plunge.

No campfires, wood/charcoal fires, fire rings, or fireworks. Propane grill/fire pit OK while attended.

No shooting or ATVs/OHVs on county roads.

Park in the garage/driveway only (6 max). No RVs or trailers.
