”If you want to have a local experience and get to know the local indigenous people, I highly recommend El Portal. It is owned and run by people from the local community. It is right next to the river, the caves and the pools of Semuc Champey. So from your room you can just walk down the river and have a swim, while chatting with locals. ”The hostel is located right at the base of Santa Cruz which made it super easy to grab the lanchas. My friend and I stayed in a private suite which was really nice and cozy. The grounds of the hostel itself are stunning and so relaxing! They host family-style dinner's every night which was so wholesome and was a great way to meet new people. The only cons I will say is that there's only wifi in the common spaces, and wifi doesn't reach the rooms. Other than that, I loved my stay! ”

El personal del hotel muy amable, atienden a cualquier hora y ayudan cuando se necesita o se tiene alguna consulta. ”El personal fue siempre muy amable. La ubicación y los servicios en relación al costo me pareció muy buena. El desayuno es riquísimo. Recién llegamos de Acatenango y el personal se dio cuenta por lo cansados que veníamos, nos ayudaron a entregar antes la habitación y mientras proporcionarnos lugar para ducharnos y descansar”

”It's a small guesthouse in a gated-community near the airport, and is protected by security. There is no 24 hour reception, so if you're arriving early or at night contact them and let them know in advance so they know when to expect you. The watcher doesn't speak English well. There's no room service (it's just a room) but it's safe and very clean. There is a microwave, coffee and hot water available in the common area, and the TV is connected to streaming services. ”
