The fusion of landscapes where the French Alps meet Provence is something special. Ancient rocky outcrops rise out of the ground offering breath-taking views of the patchwork fields below. An abundance of walk trails wind through the region but are not for the faint-hearted. Often relentlessly steep and remote, a bit of pre-planning and plenty of time to explore would be advantageous.

Statue of "The Great France" was placed at the top of the fort in the French Alps in 1933. It was intended to commemorate the intervention of the US Army in the First World War and to salute world peace. The fort is now in ruins but offers dramatic views of the town below and the French Alps. #History
