”Fabulous place to stay. Lovely warm welcome from the manager. Spotlessly clean, amazing facilities. Was great to have the six bedroom unit completely to the five of us staying. Two days before we received a message by Whatsapp to tell us that there was no one at the reception after 5pm, and give us the procedure to follow to collect our keys and settle down. In the end, this establishment is a room in Airbnb... that's not what we wanted. So we went elsewhere, to a real hotel with people to welcome you and take care of you.”

”Property staff Michael & Joyce was amazing. Service was excellent. We had dinner at the hotel on our first night which was outstanding. The only issues we had was that we booked breakfast included rate only to be told by the hotel that our booking does not include breakfast. We booked a superior room with a bath due to the fact that I had a back op, the images and information on the website showed the superior room with a bath and shower. We were told the superior room comes without a bath....

”We were greeted on arrival by the owner, who was extremely welcoming and hospitable. The room was extremely spacious and well appointed and the breakfast excellent. Dullstroom is evidently the highest town in South Africa at well over 2000 metres above sea level. As such it is somewhat cooler than most of the country and provided a welcome respite. We would have no hesitation in recommending Critchley Hackle and hope to return ourselves next year.”

”The location of the hotel is good. The stairs down the the rooms is built for somebody with long legs and the ramp - not sure if that is for a wheel chair which I will never use. The restaurant is very over priced and its really not great food. The food at Mrs Simpson is WAY better. The fire place, having a vent right on top, the room was always smelling of smoke. Rooms do all need a little TLC. Staff is very friendly and helpful.”

”Wonderful setting I must say! And the venue was well laid out with its ponds, etc. The rooms were drab, dark, old and small - it felt very crammed with all the furniture in it. There was a small fridge in the room, which was great, but there was no bottled water in the room and we had been told not to drink the tap water. The bathroom especially, was very poor - it had cracked tiles in the shower and weak water pressure, no shelves for toiletries, and the cistern took forever to fill up. We...

”There is a braai in the unit (ie in the bedroom) that makes the room reek of smoke. Even opening all the windows didn’t help. Bedding was clean and comfortable but it is down feathers, which is not good for travelers with allergies to that and the smoke.
