Charming 1-Bedroom In Cozy, Rural Hesperus - Perfect For A Quiet Getaway

Take it easy at this unique, tranquil getaway in the rural Hesperus/ Durango/Mancos area. The views of the La Platas and Sleeping Ute are ever changing, awe inspiring, and constant.

Park within steps of the Poppy Pad and you have arrived! Enter according to instructions provided prior to arrival and enjoy your stay. Please remove your shoes before entering!

The Poppy Pad is a 1 bedroom, 1 bath, 2 level spot for relaxation and exploration. There is a king bed, a kitchenette, a living area, and ceiling fans and a pellet stove for your use in the winter. Outside is a private covered patio with seating areas. In the kitchenette is a sink, a French Press for morning coffee, (coffee is supplied), purified drinking water, a microwave and mini fridge along with a variety of cutlery, cups, glasses, plates and bowls. There is no stove top or hot plate.

Check in is at 3PM - Check out no later than 10AM - Early check in and late check out is available for an additional $50 fee and is based on pre-approval and availability.

We are available if needed (unless we are out of town adventuring) but will not expect to interact with you as you relax - unless, that is, you indicate you’d like to chat or if you have questions. If so, please reach out!
The entire Poppy Pad is yours with a private entrance and patio area. We live in a separate unit on the property. You will see us out and about (if we are in town) and are available if you need any assistance or have questions.

No pets are allowed except horses (for an additional fee and if pre-arranged) - 2 people maximum (unless previously arranged) - No smoking of lit substances inside The Poppy Pad. No illegal drugs are allowed.


On the property are cats, two dogs, two equines (you will hear our burro braying). Our neighbors have yaks, cattle, goats, sheep, dogs, horses, poultry, and other farm animals. You will hear them. You will also see the wild critters that inhabit our corner of La Plata County. You are welcome to wander our property but do not enter the pasture with our burro or any of the out buildings.

We are in the rural area between Hesperus, Durango, and Mancos - An easy drive to Durango and its thrift shops, restaurants, galleries, cafes, Animas River and River Trail, and endless hiking and biking trails.

Mancos is filled with art galleries, a wonderful bakery and cafe, a fabulous coffee shop, and many hiking and biking trails.

Also within driving distance are Phil's World, Cortez, Sand Canyon, the beautiful La Plata Canyon, Mesa Verde National Park, Lake NIghthorse, and more! There are endless hiking and biking trails within driving distance of the property. Cross country skiing and snowshoeing abound and alpine skiing at Purgatory Ski Resort are popular winter activities. You can even grab a pair of snowshoes and explore our property - In the summer explore by foot or on horseback. See the property map in the white binder for options. Also in the white binder is a wealth of information on the local area and beyond.
