”Excellent location and setting. Staff excellent. Steam room out of service in the spa. Room could have done with some tlc - eg crumbly walls around where curtain hooks and the tv cable have been put in. TV in the room didn’t work. No decaf tea bags so got charged £9.35 for two decafs in the sitting room.”

”This was our first visit to see what it was like to give us future options and to compare it with Doxford Hall where we usually stay for short breaks. We are sorry to give only 4 stars for this particular stay, the property and room quality were both excellent as were the staff we interacted with but the stay was let down by a problem with shortage of kitchen staff due to illness. ”This is an institution but honestly I'd rather have a drink here and sleep elsewhere. The staff were very kind and helpful. It was mainly that because of the awesome pub it is noisy until pretty late. More from people on the street going in an out than the pub itself. It was pretty warm so I needed to leave the window open for some air. It is in the middle of town and safe and clean though, only the partiers were a problem but I was there on a Friday night.”

”Rooms were fab - even though it was very hot this July we managed to stay cool! Staff were amazing and it's right next door to the puffin boat trips! We will definitely be back!!”

”Peter and Sheila were wonderful hosts. They gave us ideas of where to eat and places to see. Breakfast was very good and enjoyable with them providing information about the area. If we return to the Northumberland area we will definitely return there to stay again.”

”Self access = soulless. Didn't see another person. Empty tables in the dining room felt like the Marie Celeste. Breakfast in a bakery and fridge in the room. Very expensive for what it was. Very dim lighting.”

”No more than okay … Lowry stayed at the hotel in the 1930s … it seemed to be like it was still caught in that era. Like so many hotels in the UK now lack of attention to detail is have a present.”
