”This is a fabulous hotel. Friendly and helpful staff, very good food, comfortable and well appointed rooms. Great location on the Northumbrian coast in a village which is a delight to walk round.”

”This is an institution but honestly I'd rather have a drink here and sleep elsewhere. The staff were very kind and helpful. It was mainly that because of the awesome pub it is noisy until pretty late. More from people on the street going in an out than the pub itself. It was pretty warm so I needed to leave the window open for some air. It is in the middle of town and safe and clean though, only the partiers were a problem but I was there on a Friday night.”

”My problem is probably mostly with Expedia. I didn't tick the box saying that I wanted a pet-friendly hotel, but the staff informed me after arrival that all their rooms were of that nature, and they didn't respond to a request via the Expedia website for a pet-free room prior to my setting off. It was clear efforts were made to minimise the effect of their policy on cleanliness but nevertheless it wasn't what I'd have chosen, if clearly informed.”

”Sheelah & Peter are extremely pleasant and helpful. The spacious house are lovely and extremely quiet. The breakfasts are excellent in the large beautiful dining room. The surrounding countryside is spectacular (drive north on nearby Devil’s Causeway and look west to the Cheviots in the late evening, but be careful of the hares on the road.) The rooms are spotless, the beds very comfortable, the showers bliss, the rates excellent. We hope to return. The hosts’ recommendations for evening meals...

”No more than okay … Lowry stayed at the hotel in the 1930s … it seemed to be like it was still caught in that era. Like so many hotels in the UK now lack of attention to detail is have a present.”

”Delightful old building, attractively furnished rooms, super service, excellent breakfast. The only niggle is no lift, so heavy suitcases may be a struggle on the stairs”

”Very clear instructions how to sign in. Room was lovely with a view of the sea and very good value for money! They even let me know that the carpark was going to be out of use due to the local festival taking place in the carpark. Only slight issue was the very good selection of books available that I couldn't possibly read in one night!! 😅! All in all a very nice place! 👍”

”Travelled with 2 puppies was worried about how things would be. Didn’t need to be worried as dog friendly rooms available & staff very accommodating. Meals served all day & a good variety to choose from. Have booked for close family to stay later in the year.”
