”This property was the favorite lodging of the trip. Amazingly, it was not full. It is within 100 yards of Hawi’s main attraction, Kohala Zipline. The main building forms a square around a lawn-dominated garden: A vintage roadside motel combined with a cloister. Good dining choices are within a short walking or a slightly longer driving distance. Nearby sights/sites of interest include Pololu Beach and two churches in a New England style, both of which look great in the tropical setting.”

”We don't want to leave! This place has changed my standards for quality of daily living. The lanai is such a peaceful place to sit and the indoor/outdoor kitchen combo is a dream for fixing meals, including the fresh catch fish you may acquire! The bed is very comfortable, the local coffee that's stocked is delicious (I have drank way too much coffee this trip) and the place has everything you need for a peaceful, rejuvenating stay. The owners are friendly and quick to respond if you need...

”I loved the décor in this home. It was simple, but very fitting for a Hawaiian stay! I also loved how it was stocked with some beach supplies and things that we didn't have to go buy. We had a really fun stay.”

”This place was exactly as described. It was spacious and clean. But….. there were very loud roosters beginning at 3pm and going on late into the night every night. The noise wouldn’t have been so bad but knowing why those roosters were there was more than disturbing. It broke my heart. To be fair, the owners of this property were great hosts and have no control over the neighbors. I’m just giving everyone a heads up in case they care about this sort of thing. I wouldn’t have rented this place...

”This is an amazingly beautiful place. You can see the ocean from the bedroom, and when the weather is clear Maui too. There are so many stars on clear nights, and we saw several rainbows. The whole property is basically a tropical garden, with little paths through the woods and citrus and avocado trees, which guests are welcome to enjoy as much as they want. Words and photos can't describe how beautiful and replenishing this location is.The hosts are lovely and welcoming - truly good people....

”Our trip to the Big Island was a last minute switch from Kauai due to storms. It was our first time on Hawaii Island, and we hadn't done any research in advance. The Mauna Lani turned out to be a perfect basecamp from which to explore the island's volcanos, beaches, oceans, tidepools, and history. It was luxurious without being fussy.
