Having the creek running near the house was awesome for us. Beds were very comfortable and we felt like we were at home.

Perfect cabin for weekend wedding
We stayed at this cabin while visiting for a wedding. The cabin was clean and we were blown away by the attention to detail. Plenty of towels for showering and toilet paper provided. There was a cute little basket next to the master sink with all amenities you would need: bandaids, antibiotic ointment, pads, sunscreen, etc. The decorations were adorable. The back deck is so peaceful. Sitting out there at night was like straight out of a movie with the song of the frogs and crickets. The kids enjoyed seeing the cows next door. Overall, a great experience and will definitely stay here again!

Easy Family Getaway
We stayed here as a family with two boys, ages 6 and 10. We got really lucky with the weather in early November, getting to eat every meal outside. We visited Taum Sauk (hiked Mina Sauk Falls trail), Elephant Rocks State Park, Johnson's Shut-Ins (we had fun wading and rock jumping even in November), and Millstream Gardens Conservation Area (hiked Tieman Shut-ins trail and rock jumped there as well). Our favorite restaurant was definitely Iron Mule, where we ate twice. We also liked the soap store in downtown Ironton (my 6yo used his bath bomb at the house after our long hike yesterday!). My family really enjoyed the creek and fire pit. The house was comfortable and had everything we needed. Now that my boys are older, we REALLY appreciate the twin bed idea in a kid room when we stay away from home. They like having their own beds but the comfort of each other. We'd definitely stay here again!

Wonderful property
A few friends and I stayed at this property for LDW and had the most relaxing staycation. It’s located next to a beautiful creek and has fire pit for roasting marshmallows. Very close to elephant rocks and Johnston shut-ins. Overall we had a wonderful experience!

Quaint cabin in a beautiful location
My mother in law and I traveled here from Nebraska and stayed for 4 nights and had a fabulous time! The house was clean and decorated adorably. The size was perfect for us, we each had our own bedroom and bathroom. We spent a lot of time on the deck and around the spacious fire pit. We fit a ton of activities during our short trip. A few fun things that we did in the area: kayaked down the Jack Forks river (crystal clear and out favorite part of the trip), Bonne Terre boat tour in the mines (Amazing!), Johnson Shut ins (Go to this, absolutely breathtaking, we swam all morning!), Elephant Rocks hiking (stunning views, easy hiking trail), Pilot Knob battle site (go if you are a history buff, great visitor center), shopping in Caledonia just up the road (tiny town with a ton of shopping!) Cave Winery in Ste. Genevieve (unique experience and fresh baked pizza) Crown winery (Live music on Saturdays) & Chaumette Winery (#1 rated winery restaurant in the country by USA Today) If you are thinking about travelling to the area, DO! The locals were so nice and there is a ton to see. Be prepared to potentially not have cell service traveling around but we did have service at the house which was a bonus. Hope to come back someday!

Perfect Getaway!
I was looking for a quiet retreat to get away from everything. I was more than happy with my stay! The property is close to numerous state parks which was wonderful because I believe I visited all of them. The house feels like home and is super comfy. It was hot while I was there but the deck and backyard have tons of shade which is where I spent much of my time when not at the parks. The owner is very kind and checked in with me to make sure I had everything I needed. I appreciated that very much and will be staying there again!

Family Friendly Getaway
This property and location were great for our family. We have 4 small children. They loved the creek on the property and the house is easy access to many state parks. It was a great vacation. The host was very communicative about the home and recommendations in the area. We will definitely go back.

Great weekend getaway
Great location for sightseeing at nearby attractions. We were able to visit Johnson's Shut-Ins, Taum Sauk Mountain, and Elephant Rock state parks all in one day since they were really close to the house. A really good place to eat is Baylee Jo's BBQ in Ironton. The best thing about the whole trip is the small creek located immediately out the back door. We spent several hours just wading up and down the creek fishing. Probably caught over 50 fish the entire time we were there ranging from small pumpkin seed, bluegill, greeny's, shiner's, largemouth bass, smallmouth bass. The largest smallmouth was around 2 pounds. We also enjoyed sitting on the back porch listening to the frogs and critters in the creek. Very relaxing.

Great Location for exploring around Ironton
Relaxing place to stay. Enjoyed the creek, the frogs and the birds. The fire pit was a great way to spend the evenings. The big deck was a comfortable place for our meals. Highly recommend visiting the Elephant Rocks, Johnson Shut-in, Taum Sauk Mountain and the historic downtown Ironton.

Great Getaway
We stayed at this home for three nights for spring break with our kids and dog. The house was comfortable and clean! It had everything we needed and more. The kids loved playing in the creek. We went on hikes at nearby Elephant Rocks and Johnson Shut Ins. We loved it!

Spring Break Trip
My husband and I decided to take the kids away for a short vacation over their spring break this year. We visited the area in November over Thanksgiving and the girls wanted to go back. Fortunately for us the cabin we rented then wasn't available this time around! Steve and Rachel were absolutely AWESOME and were available via text message the entire time we were there. We loved the house and the river right in the back yard. We have four daughters aged 15 to 6 and they were all thrilled with the river and watching the cows. We explored Elephant Rocks and Millstream Gardens but the girls had the most fun wading and catching frogs and minnows. We hadn't even pulled out of the drive way and they were wanting to know when we get to go back. Another trip is already being planned for later in the summer and I can't wait to sit on the deck and listen to the river as it runs by.

Peaceful home base for hiking
We enjoyed our stay here. The home is as described and had everything the three of us needed to be comfortable. It is convenient to many excellent hiking / climbing areas and was not hard to find or access. We loved sitting on the bench listening to the stream and playing in the yard at the end of the day. We would recommend it to anyone looking to stay in the region!

Great location for hiking at Taum Sauk and Elephant Rocks. House is small but perfect for a small family weekend getaway. We loved being next to a farm and a creek. We forgot something during our stay and manager called and offered to send to us which was really kind. Our only complaint is that the house smelled badly like a dog when we got there. We had to open all the windows and spray air freshener which helped some. I realize this is a pet friendly place but makes it smell dirty and I wish there was a way around this.

great house in the country but close to town
This was a great house to rent. We were close enough to town to get what was needed, but out in the country enough to see wildlife. Make sure and follow directions to get here. The mailbox at the road has a different address on it, but if you see the little bridge to go across, you are in the right place. We didn't get in until midnight and I was nervous that we weren't in the right place. There was a newly installed battle memorial right by the house. Interesting to have a little bit of history right at your feet. The house is exactly as described and just what we needed as a stopping place in between the state parks that we were visiting.

3 day weekend
We had a great experience! My boys enjoyed the creek and playing in the huge yard. We were so close to Tom Sauk, Johnston shut ins and Elephant Rocks. The owners were very responsive and very accomadating. They even brought a rake over upon request for our kids to rake leaves to jump in. They reached out ahead of time and gave recommendations for family friendly activities. We made lots of memories and we will be back!

Great getaway from city stress
This is a wonderful little 2 bedroom, 2 bathroom bungalow on a corner of a horse farm, near the edge of a slow-moving stream, full of wildlife. During a time of much stress in the city, it is a great escape. It is surrounded by conservation areas and the Mark Twain National Forest, not to mention Johnson Shut-ins, Elephant Rocks, and Taum Sauk mountain. It is a hiker's dream and if you can't hike, there are beautiful loops of state highway to explore. However, I could have sat on the deck overlooking the stream for the whole week, just relaxing and breathing in the fresh country air. There is a small kitchen and living room with everything you could want. Even the WiFi actually worked, which is often not the case in more rural areas. The beds are comfy and the house is clean and well-maintained. Lots of local shops are closed during the pandemic, but I got a delicious curbside takeout meal from the nearby Thee Abbey Kitchen, and can't recommend it highly enough. There are plenty of grocery stores and gas stations in the nearby towns for stocking up. The photos of the property were taken in winter, and really need some summer views. Imagine a wall of trees and leaves providing beauty and privacy as you sit out on the large deck. I highly recommend this property for singles, couples or families, young and old. I strongly recommend that you contact the owner for detailed instructions on how to find the actual driveway.

Quaint and rustic
Overall good experience. This is a new property for the current manager(s) and it had some rough edges (some older appliances and furniture that were worn out) but the managers were very responsive and were in the process of making upgrades as we were renting. I'd definitely stay here again as the location is amazing and I suspect the rough edges will be nonexistent next time. I'm honestly glad they made the property available before it was "finished" as we had a great time.

Easy location to state parks
We used this as home base for a short trip in which we hit both Elephant Rocks and Johnson's Shut-Ins state parks. House is as advertised. Small and homey. Nothing fancy. Clean and quiet. We took our own lounge chairs and enjoyed some time on the deck overlooking the incredible creek. Out only issue was finding the turn off from the road and having the courage to try the narrow bridge.

Great alternative to hotel. Peaceful view of stream and farm.
I grew up in this area. There are 3 hotels in town and some B&B's. My family chose this home so we would have a little room to spread out and have two showers. The home was clean and comfortable. The location by the stream was beautiful. We will stay here again.

Low Water Cabin
We headed to the Shut-In's, Elephant Rock's, and Tom Sauk Mtn. For a little summer get away to get the family outside for a couple days. The cabin was exactly as shown. It was the perfect location right in the middle of these three parks. Remarkably quiet ! Enjoyed sitting on the deck watching birds and wildlife in the creek.

Much better then what we expected!
This was our first VRBO and so we weren’t sure what to expect. This property was much better then what we expected. This quiet place does sit on a working farm, but we still felt very secluded and safe. This clean little house sits on the edge of a creek which gives the property a lot of character. Our kids, 14 and 11, enjoyed skipping rocks and exploring the creek. There is no signage for the turn into this property but GPS did lead us right to it- just drive over the one lane concrete bridge. This property is out in the country but is situated along a highway so you have quick access to restaurants and all the conveniences of town. Overall very pleased with our Memorial Day stay here. Thank you!!

Nice Place as described
Very nice little place on stream overlooking horse farm. Only issues were unuseable internet and no signal on TV but didn't try to get support. It was great get away for kids to be without all that for 2 days.

I'm sorry that you were unable to access tv or Internet. We could have fixed the tv all most for sure and probably the Internet, as well. Hopefully, being "unplugged" was not too difficult for the kids! Thank you for staying with us. Brenda
