We had a pleasant stay at the Yachiyo ryokan that gave the taste of Japanese accomodation characteristics. Service was fairly smooth and the whole place was really tidy although maybe slightly outdated. The location was not super central but on the other hand it provided easy access to the Path of Philosophy, some temples and museum of modern art which btw had an exquisite Katagami exhibition at the time (recommend). Food was not included on our ryokan package so cannot comment on that.
