🛁 Bathrooms — all 3 are full baths, a rarity in cottages: deep soaking tub in the primary ensuite, full bathtub + shower in each of the other two. No waiting in line on busy mornings.
🎯 Games room (basement) — 4-in-1 combo table, air hockey, dartboard, indoor axe throwing (adults only), full-size regulation ping pong table, board games, playing cards, chess, puzzles, books, badminton & volleyball set. 🔥 OUTDOORS
• Wood-burning fire pit with Muskoka chairs — please note: our cottage is in forest country near Algonquin, where wildfire risk is real and the authorities issue fire bans in dry conditions. We ask guests to avoid using the fire pit; firewood is not provided (please bring your own). If you do use it, any fire must be fully extinguished afterwards (cold to the touch) and all fire bans strictly obeyed.
• Screened Muskoka Room: the classic Muskoka experience — summer evenings without the mosquitoes, lake views through the screens, loons calling in the distance. Morning coffee here is non-negotiable.
• BBQ + picnic table for outdoor dining — grill as the sun drops behind the trees
• Hiking and biking trails right nearby — step out the door and into the forest
• Stargazing: zero light pollution, so the Milky Way puts on a show every clear night
❄️ WINTER
• Driveway professionally plowed all winter — come and go without worry
• Central heating throughout (new-build HVAC, not a drafty wood stove) — warm and even in every room
• Snow tires strongly recommended Nov–Apr — Muskoka roads can change fast, please drive to conditions
• Automatic backup generator — a winter power outage is a non-event, heat stays on
• After Hidden Valley (10 min) or Arrowhead's skate trail (20 min), come home to a hot bath and a fire in the fireplace
🗓️ THINGS TO DO, ALL YEAR
• 🌸 Spring — waterfall season! Nearby falls run at their most dramatic with the meltwater. Wildflowers carpet the forest floor, fishing season opens, and trails are quiet before summer crowds.
• ☀️ Summer — swimming at Dwight Beach (5 min, sandy and family-friendly); kayaking and canoeing on nearby lakes; biking forest trails; day trips into Algonquin for canoeing, wildlife spotting and the famous Highway 60 corridor. Evenings: BBQ on the patio, stargazing, s'mores for the kids.
• 🍁 Fall — THE season. Algonquin's maple spectacle via Highway 60 (20 min to the west gate) — among the world's best fall colour destinations. Canoe glassy lakes under red and gold. Closer to home: Big Bend Lookout at Arrowhead, quiet Limberlost Forest trails, panoramic colour from Lions Lookout over Fairy Lake.
• ❄️ Winter — downhill and cross-country at Hidden Valley (10 min); Arrowhead's famous 1.3 km ice-skating trail through the forest (20 min); snowshoeing and snowmobile trails everywhere; cozy fireplace evenings back at the cottage.
