Logrono, capital of the La Rioja region in northern Spain, has great food, good wine and so much #History. An overnight stop on the Camino de Santiago and surrounded by vineyards, it’s a beautiful city. Construction on this stunning cathedral began in the 15th century and wasn’t completed until the 18th century. The most striking feature is the twin Baroque towers that take on a golden glow of an afternoon. The tapas bars of Logrono are well worth a night of bar hopping and along with some time in the vineyards and wineries, it’s worth a couple of days on the itinerary.

”We’re just sorry we arrived late and had to check out early for wine tastings in the morning. A thoughtful modern renovation of an old stone farmhouse set in a tranquil village overlooking vineyards. Our breakfast of fresh juice and fruits, cheese and a selection of salmon and cured meats was prepared by a very charming local woman. When I return to the region, I will definitely include this special small hôtel on my itinerary. ”

”This is the second time that I have stayed at this property. The first was 10 years ago under previous management. The property is in excellent condition as it was the first time I went there. The new owners are very nice people unfriendly and served a very good breakfast. I particularly like the spot because there’s a beautiful little church up on a mountain behind the accommodations that you can walk to and it is very peaceful up there and there are some hiking options as well. ”I had a very nice stay at Pensión Úbeda in Fuenmayor. I received a warm welcome, along with helpful tips and brochures about nearby options and things to do. I had to stay one extra day, sooner than planned, and the hostess arranged the additional night without any issues. There are many vineyards nearby, and I even received a brochure with several places to visit, including contacts and prices.
