An excellent hotel with good service. Wonderful views from the rooms to the sea. The breakfast was simply excellent. The half board was average. An excellent location (city centre 15 mins walk).

Excellent value for money
Overall, the hotel was very pleasant, modern and clean. The only downside was perhaps the vastness of the hotel area - leaving our room to go to the pool area or to one of the restaurants basically meant taking a 5 min hike.

Conveniently located, stunning views
We stayed in Vidamar Resort Madeira for four nights during the Christmas. The hotel seemed quiet even if the hotel personnel mentioned that they were almost fully booked. The hotel lacks a little bit of personality even if there is nothing really missing. Nonetheless I would definitely stay here again. Our room in the third floor was perfectly located. It had a stunning, direct ocean view and you could hear the relaxing sound of the waves when you went to sleep. The room was very spacious and clean. The housekeeping service personnel were also great. Both of the breakfast and dinner buffets were pleasant surprises. There are plenty of options for everybody from omelet station to local specialities. We enjoyed more of the buffets than the special restaurants (Mamma Mia and Casa des Espetadas). I found the guest service person a little arrogant when we made the reservations at the restaurants. We did not have any idea how the reservation system worked and she made me feel a little stupid when I asked questions about it. Otherwise the service was great in the restaurants and the reception desk. I would have loved to try the infinity pool but the weather was not optimal for it. The gym was nicely located. You could see the people walking in the street while riding the bike.

Would be great 4 star hotel, not 5 stars
Vidamar hotel is advertised as 5 star hotel, however service and general condition of the hotel is more of a 4 star hotel. Location is great, close to the ocean and nice pool area. Within 25 min walking distance to Funchal downtown. Generally clean and upkept. Rooms comfortable mostly with ocean view. Breakfast and dinner service at times slow and not consistent. At dinner many times had to wait for waiters to take drink orders or be seated, also drinks arrived generally quite slowly - even halfway the meal even though seemed to have many waiting staff on duty. Buffet a bit repetitive, but with good options. Could have more options for vegetarians and add listings of ingredients for each food. Reception and staff friendly, not too personal though. Overall satisfied with the stay.

Minibaari oli puolillaan mennessämme ja täytettiin puolessa välissä lomaamme. Emme käyttäneet minibaarin tuotteita mutta, lähtiessämme yrittivät veloittaa täytöstä. Jouluillan ja joulupäivän ruokailuun kuuluneet juomat yritettiin veloittaa erikseen, vaikka ne listan mukaan kuuluivat aterioihin. Listaan vedoten ja pitkän selvittelyn jälkeen emme kuitenkaan joutuneet niitä maksamaan.

Paremmasta päästä, kokemukseni mukaan
Arviota laskee pienen pienet mustat eliöt, jotka löysivät yön aikan illalla jätetyn tuoremehu lasin. Onneksi oli viimeisen yön tapahtuma. Muuten oltaisiin vaadittu toista hotellia. Henkilökunta piti huoneen siistinä, Juomalasien kanssa oli koko ajan ongelmia, ei ollut hammaspesumukeja ja jos käytti yhtä juomalasia niin se oli viety ja tilalle ei tullut uutta.

CS Madeira Atlantic
Vietin 50-vuotissyntymäpäiviäni Madeiralla ja tämä hotelli tarjosi siihen hyvät puitteet. Hotellin kuntosalilla oli hyvä aloittaa aamu ja siirtyä sitten hetkeksi rentoutumaan saunaan ja uima-altaaseen tai jacuzziin. Sen jälkeen oli mukava mennä nauttimaan erinomaisen runsaasta buffet-aamiaisesta ja ystävällisestä palvelusta. Erikoiskiitokset hotellille syntymäpäiväni huomioimisesta. Suosittelen tätä hotellia kaikille.

CS Madeira - "Standard" 5* Hotel
We stayed a week at CS Madeira. The hotel is nicely located and fairly new. It is enormous which means it has many services, but also in our opinion lacks atmosphere. Staff was very friendly and helpful, particular thanks to the hairdresser Cristina. We would recommend this hotel to families with kids more than couples, although of course it serves both. All in all nice, if a little "sterile" experience.

Big hotel. Big rooms. Great pools. Modern, with conference style feel. Remarkable buffet, no need to go up the road and pay extra. Chocolate fountain on two nights. No decaff tea - go next door to the cliff after dinner for that. VidaMar suited us as a great base (we didn’t rent a car), we used bus or booked trips. The ‘west’ jeep discovery tour is a must. Plus all the other go-to places. Walk to Camera de Lobos and get the bus back. Madeira exceeded our expectations.

We have stayed at this hotel many times before and the reasons for returning are: - the amazing views from the rooms (floors 5 -10) out over the Atlantic - every room has sun and sea views all day - the spa built into the cliff side with incredible ocean views and wonderful relaxation areas as well as the hydro pool - the sea platform which has a choice of pools and is a sheltered suntrap all day long (we were there in December).

I recently stayed at this resort and I must say, it was a beautiful experience. The resort was stunning and the pool was absolutely amazing. I spent most of my time lounging by the pool and enjoying the serene atmosphere. The only downside was the taste of food which was okay. However, overall, I had a great time and would definitely recommend this resort to anyone looking for a peaceful getaway.

If none of the service staff nor the hotel managers greet you when passing by, something with the culture in this place seems wrong. Additionally, we were quite shocked that the hotel changed their service descriptions after we booked - we decided to book this place because a free airport transfer was offered in the description and the title "Free dinner, dinearound" sounded great to us. Yet, transfer was removed and instead a high airport charge added in the description afterwards. Plus, the dinearound is misleading as well, since only the buffet was included but all other hotel restaurants offered only a 15 eur discount on a much higher menu price. Everything else was very fine. However, these minor negative experiences would lead us to not recommend this place anymore.

Great hotel
Lovely 2 night half board stay here. Very clean, staff helpful, 3 pools especially nice, with steps down to safe sea swimming. Food, gym & spa all very good, beautiful sea view from balcony. Only negative was the pillows on bed were hard .

Great location 20 min safe walk to Funchal. Pools and sea access beautiful. Restaurant beside pool at lunchtime fantastic. Buffet restaurant is fine for a buffet. Omelettes are brilliant! The other 2 dine around are not open every night. Ate in the meat restaurant it was excellent. Great drink prices with a marvellous cocktail list. Bar had music on at weekends. Close to tour bus stops. Hire car company on site. We used hire care company 7m DONT! Did the red bus tour, but don’t bother with the extra 7€ for the blue route. Use the cable car and then either return with them or use basket ride, then local bus. North side of island beautiful, visit lava pools 3€ to swim. Kids loved it. Fantastic scenery. We did the Christopher Columbus galleon which was great fun. The pirates were very helpful!

An emergency overnight stay
It was an emergency stay after our flight home got cancelled. The staff at the hotel was fantastically accommodating and the stay overall was really great.

We had a nice stay at Vidamar. The food was great and they had nice facilities. The only down side was the beds which we didn’t find very comfortable. The staff were very friendly and made our celebration extra special.

Anbefales på det sterkeste!
Helt fantastisk hotell. Nydelige folk som jobbet der. Himmelsk mat. Nydelige omgivelser. Kanskje litt hard madrass, hadde heller ikke gjort noe med et bilde eller to på veggen på rommet. Hadde heller ikke gjort noe om de hadde spart litt på spilene på badet, men elles helt fullstendig topp. Anbefaller virkelig å ta en behagelig eller to på spaet, og virkelig få utnyttet tiden i spa bassenget før timen!

Beautiful hotel, huge room with sitting room area and stunning sea view. Dine around each evening with a choice of restaurants is great. Pool areas and free fitness classes as well as happy hour cocktails. Convenient for walking in to Funchal and lots of facilities around the hotel and bus stops if you don’t want to walk. Can’t wait to return again. Staff are all so helpful and professional ensuring that you have a great stay.

Does not live up to its five star rating
Thoroughly disappointed. The hotel for a five star lacked soul. There were no comfortable welcoming lounges for you to relax in and staff failed to interact with residents. There was a lack of information as to what was going on in the hotel and the surrounding area. My wife got up one morning to go to the gym when it opened at 7.00 am only to find after waiting half an hour outside in the dark that it didn’t open until 10.00 am that day as it was a public holiday. There were no notices to inform you of this. The beds were really hard and uncomfortable. Although breakfast was quite good. The evening buffet meal was really awful. The food lacked taste, was just about warm and a lot of the meats were tough. The desserts although looked nice were rubbery and tasteless. We had lunch in the poolside restaurant and I have to say, the food here was really very good, staff interacted and were friendly. We also ate at the Casa das Espetadas which again we thought was very good. The one positive I can say is that whatever you asked for at reception, it was delivered to your room promptly. Would I stay here again. - probably not.
