Great location for Mendocino county trip
This lovely ocean view property was very close to both Fort Bragg ca and the town of Mendocino. The listing talks about steep stairs to all bedrooms- if you are mobility challenged may not be for you. We left our suitcases down stairs and only used upstairs for sleeping. The whole place gives off a cabin vibe which I loved. If you are looking for something fancy not for you. The art work through out is amazing and was fun to look at—overall good value for the price

Overall, cabin was nice. Negatives: couches were small, enough for 2 people sitting upright with legs straight in front. Most furnishings looked like they came from a garage sale. Kitchen table at bench on one side necessitated by small space, but uncomfortible for older adults getting in and out. 3 levels. 2 bedrooms very small. Walls were more like thin partitions to create bedrooms. Made it easy to communicate easily with anyone anywhere in the house from any room. TV small and viewable only from 4 seats. Small counter top space. No garbage disposal. Bedroom (tube) TV had built in VCR player. Some people may need to look up what is a VCR player. No smart TV, but had HDMI connection for laptop. Positives: Clean. Excellent location- quiet neighborhood, nice view of ocean from living room and one bedroom. 2 miles from a nice beach. Dog friendly but no yard to play fetch. We probably won't return there, but I can see that it may be good fit for many. Also internet streamed well.

The Best Time!
We loved it here! Great location and the house was perfect for the six of us who stayed there. Lots of space, great fireplace, great view of the ocean. An older place, but so full of character. We had a great time!

House was as described in all the other reviews. The only other thing i would suggest is to bring your own hair dryer as there were none in the bathrooms. Any questions or comments were returned in a short time.

Beautiful location
This house was not quite as updated as the pictures show, but that didn’t stop us from enjoying every minute. We all slept very well and had plenty of pillows and blankets. It got warm during the day and cool at night, but opening windows and then using the portable heaters at night made it perfect. We had everything we needed except for a washer , which was broken at the time. I understand a new one is ordered. Thanks for a great stay!!

We booked this property so we could do laundry midway through our travels. Arrived to find washing machine broken and according to property management it had been broken for some time , ceiling fan - broken, dining room chair- broken leg. Couch-broken, end table broken. We ended up spending most of one of our "sightseeing " days and money in a laundromat watching the drier spin! Beautiful and peaceful setting but poorly managed and maintained. We did not come with unrealistic expectations we just expected basic things to work.

Beautiful, peaceful, house with ocean view
If you are looking for a tranquil, beautiful house with ocean views, this is your place. The house is close to parks, town but still in a quiet location with beautiful ocean views. My wife and me brought the whole family and the house was big enough for all of us. I cannot recommend this house enough. I can hardly wait for my next vacation in Mendocino!

Filthy cabin
When we entered the house it was unswept, cobwebs on the baseboards, the entire house smelt of fish, the dishes all had a greasy film and all the cabinets had crumbs in them. The oven mits were filthy with dried food still on them! The house itself was ok but there was an overall feeling of unwelcomeness.

animal hair on furniture and beds, up stair sink plugged with hair wouldn't drain until drain access pulled out, WIFI terrible and would only allow limited access, sofa in front room broken armrest, rubber brick tiles around firepit loose and came out of place, upstairs bedroom floorboard separated causing a tripping hazard chair in front of tv is not stable and wobbles, metal floor trim in front of tv separated and catches your foot as you walk by

Raymond, we are disheartened to read that you encountered issues that kept you from enjoying your stay. Our local manager assured us that they inspected the floorboards and noted that they are not separating but that the flooring has some live-edge planks. Additionally, the sofa arm was repaired, the WiFi/Internet provider replaced a line into the home and upgraded the equipment and the trim around the living room floor has been repaired. reasonable value, beautiful views, but some things to attend to
The biggest frustration was how long it took for Vacasa to get back to us. 5 hours the first time, when we couldn't find how to heat the house and were cold, and 8 hours the second time when we were requesting a later checkout. Other deficiencies included: No wine glasses, no serving bowls Lighting upstairs poor Light at lower level bathroom sink poor lighting No extra blankets upstairs Otherwise the place was adequate. Great views and wonderful location.
We have stayed here before. This time none of our family members could join us, so we had the house to ourselves. The bottom floor is the newest and nicest. Negatives:The rest of the house is much older, but it has a Mendocino vibe. You can hear every sound on every floor, no matter which level you are on, so if you are staying with family or friends that are not on the same schedule, it is pretty uncomfortable. There are no window coverings downstairs. The kitchen is small and the furniture in the living room is not comfortable to hang out in. Parking in the driveway is difficult if you have a large truck. Positives: There are two large decks and great views from the upper deck. The neighborhood is beautiful and you can walk out to a cliff overlooking the ocean.

This was a great setting with a very nice view of the ocean. Quite easy to get to as well. One thing the owner may not be aware of is that the reserve tank for the water pump is broken so the pump was running almost constantly if one runs water such as flushing a toilet or taking a shower. It is a very quaint house with lots of room and comfortable beds. We had a great time.

Vacasa of California 06/14/2022 Re: Property ID 655394 (06/04/22-06/10/2022) Overall, we enjoyed our stay. The property was quiet and isolated, in a well-tended neighborhood. The interior was comfortable and I enjoyed the many pictures and curios throughout. However, by day two one toilet was plugged up. I found a plunger and fixed it on several occasions. A seat on the dinning table broke when I sat on it. Fortunately, I was not hurt but i noticed that several other chairs were questionable so we set them aside. The small sofas felt weak we limited them to our kids. In addition, the deck door was stuck and difficult to open and or close so accessibility was limited. My wife notified from a maintenance person from Vacasa. I was informed that we would be contacted by the handyman. Mike the handyman did not show up until the day before our departure. He validated our issues and was aware of these issues to be repaired. Rick

A Peaceful Retreat
I have an extremely difficult time doing nice things for myself. Finally decided to book this place at the urging of several friends, and it couldn’t have come at a better time. This place was everything my partner and I needed: beautiful, quiet, and out of reach from the outside world. I only wish we could have stayed longer. Neither of us had phone service and we never wanted to come back, it was perfect. Note: this house is funky. It’s funky in a great way, but just know that it’s not soundproof in the slightest. Any footsteps upstairs can be heard down on the main level, though I’m not sure about the lower level. It’s not far at all from Ft Bragg (and I’m sure Mendocino but we didn’t venture that direction), but know that these coastal towns often close early so plan ahead when it comes to food and beverage needs if you’re getting in a bit late. TLDR: Do yourself a kindness. Refresh your spirit. Book the place. Even if it’s not this one, just do it. I wish a review had told me that, so I’ll pay it forward. Waking up to a view of the ocean and clean air does something for the body that you just can’t get anywhere else.

January Birthday getaway
We had a great weekend stay at Chanticleer. While the pictures do make it look bigger the place was still Perfectly cozy for our family of 5, our doggo, and my sister and her husband. The indoor fireplace is amazing and kept us toasty as it was pretty cold once the sun went down. Speaking of the sun I hope you get clear days as the views are amazing and we had some of the best sunsets during our stay. Our only rant was the pullout bed/couch in the downstairs den. No way anyone could sleep on that.

The house was well supplied with everything we needed. Only complaint is that the windows in the downstairs bedroom had no window coverings so as soon as the sun came up the light coming in would wake you up. Also the bed was super hard, not good if you have a bad back.

Wonderful home away from home
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Chanticleer. We found everything we needed - the location was perfect - close to everything we wanted to do. We also spent a lot of time at the house so the kids could do their online school, and it was very comfortable for the four of us. Our teenage boys had the upstairs to themselves and the downstairs was very comfortable for my husband and me. The main room was cozy with the fireplace and we did a lot of cooking. We would definitely return. Thank you so much.

The location was great along with the view, which is just as the picture shows. It was quiet and close to all kinds of hiking etc. The house is an older house and could use some updating. As was noted in a review in 2019 the furniture in the living room is really not conducive to lounging. It is old and not really comfortable and the one reclining chairs seat is broken. The lighting could be better, one of the standing lamps light bulb connection was dangling. We cooked a lot and would have liked more silver ware. The bed was great and overall it was a joy to be there.

Lovely cabin in a great location
Our family really enjoyed our stay in this charming cabin in a fantastic location minutes from the beach and a short drive from both Fort Bragg and Mendocino. The house is older, but had all the amenities to make it comfortable. Small but adequately equipped kitchen and washer dryer. Amazing views from the deck and the upstairs bedrooms! The cabin has older windows that don't open but it wasn't a problem for us. Clean and well maintained, and we felt comfortable staying there even in the midst of the Covid pandemic.

Quick getaway
My husband and I brought a family member from Germany and we had a wonderful stay. The place might've been a little big for the 3 of us but it gave us space and a beautiful view of the ocean. It does get the afternoon sun blasting the living room but just keep the ceiling fan going and opening the doors created a nice cross breeze. Everything else was very enjoyable and we'd definitely consider staying there again.

The location and amenities were great. However, most of the mattresses were very uncomfortable which was disappointing. The living room furniture is beat up and not very comfortable, either. The internet and TV were wonderful and the kitchen had all that was needed to cook.

Perfect Mendocino Retreat!
We came up for a girls weekend, and Chanticleer was a perfect property! It was spacious and tastefully decorated, and the wrap around deck has an amazing ocean view. It was a quick drive into town, and close to a few sights we wanted to visit. Just 20 minutes to Fort Bragg for North Coast brewing and glass beach. Point Carrillo lighthouse was so close we just walked from the house. A great place to stay!

the furniture was rather shabby. the bedrooms were listed as queens and two of the beds were not queen per my son and our guests. the kitchen was not filled with all of necessities, glasses silverware etc. would probably not rent it again . the location was beautiful.

Good location, great view, has everything you need. Kitchen well equipped. Great view, multiple great decks. No yard to speak of. Stairs are steep, no bedrooms on the main floor so don't stay here if you can't do stairs. We would happily stay here again.

No heater, poor construction, few shades, kitchy.
The house was freezing inside when we arrived, so we lit a fire and turned on the furnace. We noticed poor output of heat from vents. The next morning, sitting on the back porch, we would smell gas when the winds shifted to east, and thought the neighbor was grilling. We left the house early the next day, and when we returned later in the afternoon, the smell of gas on the back porch, and then the house, was overpowering, so we turned off furnace and called the manager. They sent out Maintenance, who could not fix it, and offered more space heaters, but we refused because of multiple reasons (you can feel cold air flow from the window frames, AC plugs that had seen to much salt air, ...). The next day we were told furnace needed replacement, and none were available. Vacasa refunded $120 for 5 days in winter without a working heater. The front door is a hollow interior door, with no doorstop to stop the handle from breaking a window. The back door is flimsy and needs to be fitted properly so you don't have to exert significant effort to squeeze it shut. The downstairs bedroom has zero curtains, so sunrise is an alarm, and if you don't want to change in front of open windows, go to the top floor. Multiple lights didn't work or were burnt out. Then all the art, knicknacks... impossible to dust them all. You can't open windows on main floor (the original windows were not purchased as framed windows, but as glass, and the builders made simple frames, so they leak cold air. Plastic exterior chairs dirty, and at least half were broken. Well, it did have a nice view, outside, from the main level balcony. The rippled mylar over the large windows interfered with the clarity of the windows.

We apologize for the issue with the furnace - these things do happen unexpectedly at times. We hope the numerous electric heaters, fireplace, and provided firewood helped you feel warm and comfortable. The doors are original to the home and will not be replaced, but we have purchased a doorstop. The owner will not be purchasing any curtains since the home is in the woods without any other homes present around the back side of the structure. We are currently investigating any potential electrical issues, but the windows will not be 'fixed' as they were never made to open up. Thank you!

This is a fun house to stay in, great view and location, plenty of room for 5 people.
Five adults stayed for 3 nights. The location was great for getting to Ft. Bragg and Mendocino. It was quiet and the deck was lovely to sit and read or watch the ocean. Everyone could have their own space or could lounge together in the living room enjoying the fireplace. It was easy to get settled in. There is a need for a good stainless steel fry pan as well as a rimmed cookie sheet. Otherwise the kitchen was functional and cooking utensils/ pots and pans were provided. We enjoyed our stay and would definitely think about returning!

Beautiful views; took a couple of early-morning walks around the neighborhood--beautiful. There was plenty of sleeping space for my whole family (6 adults). The walls are pretty thin, so any noise travels pretty far, especially in the upstairs. The kitchen was a tad small but had everything we needed. My family all traveled to the west coast for a wedding; this place was just what we needed. If you come in the warmer months (we stayed beginning of October) be sure to open the doors up and let it air out; due to how close it is to the coast, it can get a little musty.

A place we have loved for years ... that needs some work
We have stayed at Chanticleer for many years and little has changed. It is in need of many updates and maintenance, but at least the price is reasonable. The biggest issues are the kitchen and the noisy, pulsating water pump that runs whenever you turn on the tap.

Centerally located and has everything you need
The view from the porche(s) is awesome. There are 4 comfortable beds (1 is a twin) the pull outs not so comfortable but will work best for kids if they have to be used. A unique property in many ways. We didn’t use the fireplace but it looks great and lots of wood available. Great table for eating or large groups. Seemed to have everything we needed.

Enjoyable
We did enjoy our house in Mendocino. My advice would be to replace the large frying pan as the .teflon has been scratched and to provide oven safe cooking pans. We overall felt very relaxed and comfortable there and would definitely make your home a future choice.

Property feels very private even when you have all the window blinds open. It offers a view of the Pacific Ocean from a distance. It provided enough room for 2 families. The kids fell in love with the place and would like to come back soon.

Great view off the deck.
We had a great time on our weekend to Ft Bragg and Mendocino.The house was a nice place to stay and we were able to see whales off of the top deck. I would not recommend it for small children because of the stairs and the fireplace but great for older children and adults. We needed more towels and it was kind of dark. Be prepared for the extra fees that are added to the nightly rate when you book the house.

Property overall is good. Quaint older home with beautiful views and a great location.
The drive way was difficult to back in and out of because of the steep driveway with our truck. Location was great. Close to Mendecino town and close to Fort Bragg. Russian Gulch state park was right down the road which was nice. The pillows needed updating and were not comfortable, I hope they are replaced. No blinds in the downstairs master which left you feeling very exposed. Furniture downstairs could be updated as well. Kitchen was stocked well so that was a bonus. Would have loved an outdoor table and chairs to eat a meal with the beautiful views. The house was being cleaned until 4pm the day of arrival which was not ideal since we had driven 5 hours to get there that day. Then when we asked for a later checkout we were denied by the rental company. I did not feel this was kind or flexible as we were only requesting an hour or two at most. Checkout time is too early considering the check in time.

Great spot to enjoy Mendocino
A great house with a great view of the ocean. We brought binoculars and watched whales from the deck! A nice view of the sunset, and the lodging was great. For cooler nights the fireplace was really nice with a big table for sharing. The living area furniture is abundant, well lit, dog friendly, but also a bit small. I'm not sure seven adults could fit all together in the same room except at the dining table. 2-4 is pretty good. If you're in the upstairs beds they are very cozy/close with a cabin like feel, but very comfortable. The house is over three levels, four if you count the outside garden area, so be prepared for some stairs just as the description clearly describes. It's in a great quiet location with super easy access to Highway 1, Mendocino and Ft. Bragg. Definitely hope to visit again soon.

A Caspar quiet getaway
The place was full of charm and our out of town guests were so pleased with the overall feel and the attention to details that really make the place! We wanted to extend it was so charming, but alas another couple were booked following our time there. Owls galore and wild turkeys abound. Highly recommended. Renee

Relax
My family and I enjoy our stay . The property has a beautiful view and is ina very quiet neighborhood . We enjoy seeing the birds and deer by the property .
