We drove 2 and a half hours to Monte Rio for a Valentine's Day weekend trip with my girlfriend. We get to this creepy looking empty hotel and the "office" was closed. There were no other cars in the parking lot and a hand written sign on the door that said to call Jay on WhatsApp for assistance. My cell phone had no signal in the mountains but luckily my girlfriend did. I was trying to call the "hotel"all day earlier, to ask about something else, with no answer either. We tried calling him for a half hour and still the same. My girlfriend tried one more time before we went to find wi-fi for my phone and to our surprise, he finally answered. He said that he had an emergency and that there was nothing he could do about it and would make it up. He doesn't have any help? Family? Part time employee? Couldn't call and let me know earlier? He had no answer to my questions. Expedia customer service gave me the run around that night and we had to search another app to find another hotel somewhat near, pay and book another hotel for the weekend and drive an hour up the mountains on the coast, since we could not find another room in the area. I had read comments about this same thing happening to someone else and that Jay was making passes at guests and making visitors uncomfortable so I was weary of paying up front, but I was desperate and hoped that maybe people were exaggerating. A very big lesson learned. Pay more attention to the comments and reviews before hand.
