Crossing the Nullarbor of South Australia was one of the most fascinating things we've ever done. Roughly 1700km of hot, desolate, near-nothingness, punctuated by the odd tree or dead 'roo. We camped on the side of the road when we could, until the wind sent our tent off like a tumbleweed one evening. Although I wouldn't call it the proper "outback", it was still an amazing experience.
My absolute favorite thing about traveling is the fantastic people you meet along the way :) Meet Frank! Frank Rickus to be more precise (look him up on Facebook to follow his crazy adventures). We randomly met him (expect the unexpected at all times, people) while driving through the Nullarbor. His goal? Cycle through the whole of Australia & meet people along the way. This crazy German was on his final stretch before heading back home (after having cycled 18 000km)! Back at home he is the mayor of a small town in Germany. And he is one of the coolest people we've ever met! So much happiness...that's what following your heart does to you. No matter how crazy it is...a man's gotta do what a man's gotta do. :) He has also cycled from China to Germany & from Columbia to Chile. You know...everyday stuff. LOL. Frank has reached the Great Ocean Road as we speak. Buddy, you are amazing! Many believe the Nullarbor desert's name derives from an aboriginal word. In fact, it is a modification of the latin meaning of 'no trees'. This could not be more appropriate! The stretch between Perth and Adelaide, & the Nullarbor in between, was...empty, straight and well...uneventful to say the least. We spent three days just driving, stopping for lunch, dinner and sleeping. We had to fill up the car with petrol whenever we had a chance - as there are incredibly long roads where you have no possibility to fuel up. Still nowadays you have people getting lost in the outback as it can take days until you see another person - especially if you head north towards the Northern Territory. As a rule of thumb: don't leave the vehicle ever. Too many have attempted to do this just to disappear in the wild only to be found dead. Australia is known for deadly things in general actually...The most poisonous & dangerous animals are in your vicinity - spiders, snakes, jellyfish...you name it. But, so far we have encountered none and to be honest, some Australians we spoke to, have never seen a redback in their lives... So no need to worry. ;) it's not as a scary place as you might believe... For now, let's get this stretch of uninhabited land behind us. Ahhh the famous Australian roadsigns :) We've spotted Kangaroos & Wallabies, Wombats, Emus, Kookaburras and a hitchhiking Koala. Yep. The big little fella was sat next to the road completely unfazed by the cars staring at us - he really looked as if he was about to ask us to stop to catch a ride. :) Lots & lots of driving ahead - the Nullarbor desert is a tough one. Looong roads that look the same for endless of hours. I often stay here for sorter work trips. Convenient central location. Prefer the rooms on higher floors and to the side or back away from King William Street. Comfortable bed. Tv is old and not inspiring to watch with movie all paid, but means I get out and about instead.

Huoneisto oli todella viihtyisä ja siisti. Mukavassa sängyssä nukkui hyvin. Keittiö, pesukone ja kuivausrumpu olivat plussaa! Sijainti on täydellinen, lisäksi palvelu oli ystävällistä ja avuliasta. Suosittelen!

I stayed for nearly 5 months in between homes. It such a beautiful apartment with delightful helpful staff. Can’t thank everyone enough for making me so welcome. Will be visiting Cottage Kitchen regularly and be back for special occasions. Every best wish team Majestic.

Just before Eucla in Western Australia is the South Australia/Western Australia border crossing and quarantine station, along with a roadhouse where food and fuel are available.
