Nice hosts, bad area, probably don't bring kids

Let me start by saying you can tell that they really care and want you to have a nice stay. There were drinks in the fridge and snacks on top of the fridge and soaps and lotions and toothbrushes in the bathrooms. We communicated with them and they were so sweet. The appliances and shelves were clean but the floors were very dirty my one year old had black feet, knees and hands from crawling on the floors. I don't know if they have a cleaning service or not. Just want that to be brought to their attention. There was a cracked mirror in the top bedroom which is not the end of the world. Our main concern was the door to the apartment did not lock without the deadbolt you could just push it open because there is a wide gap between the door and frame. My husband moved things around and we locked the bedroom door to feel safe.Something outside of the properties control is the neighborhood. It was a little scary. People yelling out in the middle of the night and at us as we moved from our car to the building. Someone was outside the building with their pants down which my husband noticed and quickly closed all of the curtains. Cars were revving their engines up and down the road in the middle of the night. Pretty sure we heard gunshots and lots of sirens one night. So we did not sleep very well.I feel bad that these nice people are competing with a bad neighborhood because i think if they were in a nicer area they would really succeed in giving people a super great stay.

Beautiful home

My stay was amazing. The host made sure my check in was great and stayed in contact with me throughout my entire stay, and even had snacks and water for the guest. A very gracious host. The home looked exactly how it looks in the picture. Very spacious and the neighbors were great. I will definitely be booking again.

Do not stay here!

This VRBO is in an undesirable location with a condemned building across the street and trash around and on the property. The foyer was dirty and with the smell of marijuana. The handle to the exterior entry and deadbolt to the apartment door were broken. The apartment was exceedingly dirty and clearly not swept or mopped. There was dried vomit on the first floor toilet. The refrigerator was dirty with food and sticky substances. Smoke detector on the first floor was missing. The yellow chair in the family room collapsed upon sitting found damaged and missing screws. When opening the living room drapes, the whole assembly collapsed and was hanging by a screw. The windows had slime/hand prints on them. The patio door lock in the 2nd floor bedroom to the balcony was broken/unable to be locked. We immediately contacted the owner to address our concerns. She apologized for what she described as “minor” inconveniences and offered a late check out. We opted to stay the evening and the next day sent a message to the host that we would not be staying for the second night as we felt uncomfortable and unsafe not being able to secure the Apt. She didn’t address our concerns and she refused to refund us the 2nd night or cleaning fee as she stated that we were only objecting due to the “cost” of the accommodation. This is anything but an “elegant escape” and are writing this review to caution anyone who may consider renting here or with this host in the future.

There was a lot of issues with the property

They don’t tell you about the broken things inside or the little marks on the walls the stairs were dirty and the floor needed to be swept again because I guess the swept and mopped but they was still dirty and pieces of trash on the floor. The carpet was dirty. I had to personally clean up before my guest arrived.

I really enjoyed my stay here! everything was clean and nicely set up. the bedrooms were beautiful and so were the bathrooms, the neighbors were friendly and i was even able to host a small gathering for my birthday and it just overall made my visit a 10/10

Just the facts

Postives: -The bathrooms were clean -Appliances are new and nice -The host answered quickly when I reached out -The bedrooms were clean with comfortable beds Facts: -The apartment is located in West Philadelphia. -Each day, there was a strong smell of marijuana coming from the apartment next door. We could not smell it in the apartment. -The people next door played music loudly that could easily be heard in the apartment until about 10:00 p.m. -The building across the street is abandoned with boarded up windows. -There were crumbs and hair on the floor in the kitchen and family room when we first arrived. When I notified the owner, she said it can't be dirty because they just cleaned but gave me permission to sweep it up. -The dishwasher was full of clean dishes when we arrived. -There was not a garbage bag liner for the kitchen garbage and no liners that I saw. We were told we would be fined if we got into the cleaning closet, so I did not look there for liners to avoid a fine (but was given permission to get the broom out to clean up when we arrived). -There was no dish soap. I was told I could fill the empty container with dish soap from the closet, but I couldn't open the container and was afraid of breaking it so I didn't fill it. -There were 2 wash cloths for a three day stay. I asked the owner if there were more. She said the housekeeper would deliver more. That did not happen. -There was no ice maker and no container to make ice.
