It is in a good area. Many restaurants are close by. Also close to the zoo. The staff is very accommodating and very easy to talk to.

Pros and Cons

Pros: Pam (host) is great. Lots of knowledge and goes out of her way to be helpful. Central location. Shower worked well. Cons: Found dead bedbug on bed. WiFi cut out constantly, only available from a corner of the room, died often. Toilet broken, leaked on floor. Conclusion: accepting the bedbug, would have been acceptable at a lower price point. As is, I wouldn’t stay again.

Forty Winks

Forty Winks is a great place to stay as a tourist due to its central location. It's just a short walk to Queen's Park Savannah, Ariapita Avenue, St. James place. Pam, the owner, is very helpful and had a wide suggestion of tips for us. The patio is a great place to relax and read a book. The neighborhood also felt safe to walk around in at night!

Warm welcome!

After we booked up for our stay, I saw a Sunday Times article on Trinidad which said not to stay in any of the big, bland overpriced chain hotels but to choose a guest house like Forty Winks! I was so pleased to have our decision reinforced, and we were not disappointed. We got a really warm welcome and were looked after from the moment we walked in the door, given useful advice and excellent taxi support for our needs (local and for the trip to see the scarlet ibis coming in to roost - amazing experience!). There is a pretty garden terrace, and the breakfast area is so attractive too, they have made the most of space and artwork brings plantlife indoors. The location is quite central, mostly residential, but with some good places to eat, we were happy to walk into town. The shower is one of the best we have come across to date in our three plus weeks around the Caribbean (time that includes posh hotels!). A lot of care and attention has gone into this guest house, as you will see from the website!

Wonderful Guest House

We absolutely loved out stay at Forty Winks. It's in a great area, the rooms are clean, the beds comfortable, and Pam -the manager- is one of the most accommodating and helpful people I've met. She gave us great advice on where to eat, and what to do. And when it looked like we were going to miss our ferry to Tobago she personally drove us to the station. Would 100% recommend Forty Winks to anyone visiting Port of Spain.

Nice and Comfy Hotel

The hotel was nice and comfortable. The staff very friendly and warm. It is in a nice neighborhood and a very nice park is not far from the Hotel. We were there for work. We felt like home. Thank you Forty winks staff.

Hotel Stay that will amaze

Very good experience staying at the hotel...I honestly didn't have one complain. Its a small hotel but very well located with accessibility to the thriving culture was very easy.

Walking distance to everything

Pat the owner greeted me and we had a wonderful conversation, she ensured that my room was perfect before allowing me to enter. The breakfast the next day was prepared as you enter the dining area...my overall stay was pleasant and comfortable. I would recommend anyone to this place.

Great location for Carnival liming!

Nestled in a quiet street in Woodbrook, the rooms might be small but the location is great for anything you might be doing around Carnival in Port-of-Spain. Each room is air-conditioned, has a comfy bed, TV with cable, and your private bathroom to shower off all the Carnival sweat in gloriously hot water. Staff are very helpful and friendly, and the morning breakfasts were very nice - I had fruit, scrambled eggs and ham, and coffee with toast and jam. I would definitely stay here again and would recommend it - it is perfect for the solo traveller or couples. There is also a lovely quiet patio upstairs with lots of tropical plants where you can relax outside of your room.

Nice, small and private hotel

The hotel is clean and tidy. They provide everything you need, from towels to soap. The breakfast is really good and it is well located so you can walk around and get to know the city.

Amazing!

Staff was amazing! Very hospitable, helped us navigate the city, made arrangements to tour the city, and took care of our every need. The hotel was very comfortable, relaxing, and the breakfast was great.

Irie!

Stayed at the hotel my first and last night in Trinidad. Hotel staff very nice and accommodating. It's a boutique type hotel with a lot of personality. Good value for the price. Restaurants and night life on the Avenue nearby.

The best mini hotel in the area by far

With only a limited time to spend there and on top of this my tardiness they provided for me exquisitly. Breakfast included, clean, air-condition and friendly staff really made me feel like home. It was that special blend of being a foreigner but also being part of the locals. In all I was a wonderful stay. Practically in town and all necessities at walking distance or a few minutes drive. The security and assistance was great and I couldn't help but fall for the customer service. For my first visit to trinidad it was really a home away from home thank you fourty winks.

Bright small guesthouse in good location

We stayed a week in this friendly small place, efficiently run by a local person, who was knowledgeable and helpful. It was immaculately clean , safe and in a good location. We found the first room we stayed in small, but were moved to a larger room when we requested this. Quiet area. Happy to recommend.

Decent Hotel in the City's Capital

We got there early as our flight was a red-eye and we had to wait until 11AM to check in, which was fine. The hotel was small and quaint in an OK part of town. The city is not that pretty so considering this the location was acceptable. They did not have keys for us to the room as the prior guest forgot to return them so they had to open and close the door for us. This actually was not an issue since there was always someone there. The room was small and clean. The AC worked well and the HBO and cable TV was nice. The bed was comfortable. We did notice and kill 2 mosquitoes in the room. We wore bug repellent the entire time while in the country so we didn't get bitten once. Breakfast was nice and tasty. The staff provided us with some info on the island but not much. All-in-all it was a fine stay for the price.

My last stay there the room I got smelled of mildew and I had to ask for my room to be sprayed for mosquitoes. I still had them in my room all night.

Small but comfortable hotel near Queen's Park!!

This hotel was perfect for what we needed for a one night stay: a clean, comfortable place with all of the basic amenities (a/c, cable TV, nice bathroom with blow dryer, etc.) and with the option of breakfast the following day ($5 USD per person). I especially liked the color scheme and decoration of the whole hotel. The breakfast room was beautiful (it is open-air and runs along the side of the hotel, sort of like a hallway) and had books you could read, maps of Trinidad, and brochures. Everyone was very friendly (Casmilla who booked a half day sightseeing tour for us, Pam during check-in at front desk, and Jeanna during breakfast and at check-out)! Pam actually went out of her way to walk us to the corner and direct us toward a restaurant open on a Sunday night (we arrived late from the north coast). While walking to the restaurant, we saw that it was close to Queen's Park Savannah which means it is convenient for Carnival. We had a good night's sleep, headed out on our tour and were then transported to the airport by our tour guide Nick. We would definitely stay there again!!!

Overpriced for its condition & service (lack of)

- location close to several embassie - small rooms with old/dirty blankets & bed covers, filthy lamp shades, and dirty floors - for the price it charged, there was no service, not even house keeping (had to ask for toilet paper/garbage bag)
