We booked 5 nights at Lopesan in Punta Cana to celebrate our daughter’s birthday, arriving 4/25/26. At check-in, before we even had a room key, a staff member aggressively pitched a “Unique” upgrade — claiming the included food was “no good” while Unique offered far better food, lobster, a private buffet, a private beach with drink service to your chairs, and a private pool. For our daughter’s birthday, we agreed.
The next morning, the Unique buffet was shocking: a tiny, sweltering room with no AC, cold cuts sweating with condensation, and flies swarming every station. We walked out, fearing food poisoning. The outdoor grill only offered an omelette made with cheese sitting in 90-degree heat. The “private” beach wasn’t separated from regular guests and promised drink service never came — my husband fetched our water himself. At lunch, conditions were worse. A burger from the grill came out raw. I spit it out and we left. We never returned to anything Unique.
We immediately messaged our butler requesting a manager and refund, detailing everything. We also met multiple families with the identical experience. It took until 4/29 — our final day — for manager Fermin to meet with us. The same resort that stationed a salesperson at check-in had no manager available for four days. Fermin denied every issue and claimed no one else was dissatisfied.
The Unique upgrade is a scam sold before check-in. Once they have your money, management vanishes.
