We stayed in a private room. Exactly as described- very bare bones twin bunk beds but that is what we signed up for! The shared mess hall was great, dinner buffet was surprisingly very very good, and staff was very helpful

We honeymooner here! They gave us some bubbly in our tent, great hiking recommendations, the sauna was wonderful, the swimming spring was wonderful and warm!

I stayed in one of the glamping tents with my partner. We arrived here after a strenuous hike and the welcoming stuff, great facilities and beautiful surroundings were exactly what we needed to rest! Highly recommended! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

We booked this location last minute and didn't see the check-in email about needing a mountain bus ticket, or an atv to get to the property, until the last bus had already left. The staff, office, and Expedia were very helpful and gave us a refund for our room. We would like to come back some day and experience the volcano huts properly.

Great way to end a long hiking trip. Comfortable rooms with amazing views. Staff was friendly and helpful. Restaurant was a nice place to hang out and have dinner.

This was a lovely place to stay! We came in from the Laugavegur trail and for similar money it was a nice upgrade compared the huts we had stayed in prior (though those were quite good as well). The staff was very helpful, the facilities were great, and the location was lovely. If you’re not hiking in you definitely need to take a bus here! It’s not cheap but it’s really necessary unless you’ve got a serious off-road vehicle.

Tolle Lage mitten in der Natur und gute Wandermöglichkeiten. HAKEN: für Unterkunft ist nur mit teurem Shuttlebus anfahrbar. Es müssen sechs Flussüberquerungen gemacht werden. Das Erlebnis kostet pro Person 180€!!!! Küche ist sehr bescheiden ausgestattet.

You can’t use a rental car to go to the hotel. You need to buy bus tickets to go to the hotel as it needs rivers crossing. Only Icelandic customized buses can go only there. The bus tickets are very expensive. Before you book your hotel please take into these considerations if you are traveling with a family as the bus tickets can become very expensive. You will know this two days before check your n and you can’t cancel your reservation.

Stunning location, clean ,warm and simple room.Friendly staff happy to give advise on hikes. Would definitely return and recommend staying at Volcano Huts. Camp kitchen is well equipped.

This place was freaking amazing and it was so unexpected! You take an insane 4x4 trip (you need an extremely specialized vehicle to get here you can't just take any car or jeep) to get out here and you're right in the middle of everything all the mountains the braided rivers and the glaciers. The trails are very good all difficulties exist and there are very dangerous trails. We went to a waterfall and took a bath and changed in a dry cave we had it all to ourselves. The rooms that we stayed in are dorm style (a set of small drawers , a heater, and a bunk bed that's it) and everyone was quiet and polite thankful. The ONLY THING that sucked was one night there was a group outside singing kumbaya for a couple hours and the guitarist plugged into a large speaker and amp and that SUCKED. This place is supposed to be quiet not a Christian rock concert I was never notified of any music. Anyways there are good campgrounds, extremely hot water (nice outdoor shed showers) and super good food! It's not super gourmet food but it definitely gets the job done! Overall 9/10 the loud music sucked for one night it was from 9-12pm so that sucked but everything else was absolutely wonderful!

Wonderful place!

We loved our stay in a glamping tent here. It was the perfect chill out between hiking the laugavegur and fimmvorduhals trails. The little sauna is great after hiking, the staff were so helpful and the trails in the area are fantastic. Walk the orange trail, the glacier views are amazing!

Traumhafte Landschaft mit gut eingerichteten Wanderwegen. Wer entschleunigen und aktiv die Natur genießen möchte, ist hier richtig! Man hat alles was man braucht und wird nicht mit unnötigen Dingen abgelenkt!:)

My complaint is with with the lack of clarity in the listing for this stay. They do not clearly state how difficult it is to access this property. THE ONLY OPTIONS FOR ACCESSING THIS PROPERTY: 1. Park 7+ kilometers away and hike with your luggage 2. Take a bus that runs a few times a day and costs 10,000 ISK per person per direction (Price as of time of posting) (totaling roughly $165 USD per person to access this property) YOU CANNOT ACCESS THIS PROPERTY VIA CAR, even 4x4 The only mention of this in the listing is in the "Parking and Transportation" fine print: "Free offsite parking within 14 miles Bus station shuttle (surcharge) RV/bus/truck parking (surcharge) on site" They did send me more info via a direct message after the booking, but I had missed the notification. Since I had booked the stay a few months out, I did end up finding out about this a few days before our stay due to browsing the back pages of their actual website, and didn't think to look up bus prices, not thinking it would possibly be that expensive. Since the hike wasn't an option with my elderly parents, and the cost of the bus ride was more than booking another hotel, we were not able to stay here, so no comments as to the quality of the property itself. Since it was so close to our stay that I realized the cost of the bus, they were not willing to refund my stay even though we were not able to reasonably access the property. PLEASE UPDATE THE LISTING TO CLEARLY EXPRESS THE OPTIONS TO ACCESS THE STAY!

Perfect stay for a hiking getaway

Excellent stay at the volcano huts from beginning to end. Love the quiet, remote location. We had a glamping tent, which was set up wonderfully, with everything we could need. The beds were very comfortable, and the space heater, chairs and blankets were a great extra touch. It was so convenient to have the showers and washroom nearby, and we enjoyed dinner and the takeout lunch available. Perfect location for great hiking nearby. And loved the exciting bus ride to get there! Would definitely stay here again.

Everything was clean and good. Only down side was that the private room we booked did not keep the noise out of other rooms or the hallway. This is to be considered as you are paying 100$ for bus tickets on top of the stay to get there and back if you dont have a super jeep to get across the river. Views there are really good tho.

Have the right vehicle - roads are rough.

Getting there. Be aware that you have the right vehicle and arrangements to get here. We had a AWD vehicle rented from the airport. The first river crossing was precarious. The road got even tougher and some rental cars are not allowed in those roads. The GPS gave 4 more river crossings and we decided it was safer to turn back. Never made it. I wish the accessibility issue was made more obvious.

Be warned: you CANNOT get to this hotel with your own vehicle! You're required to buy a separate bus ticket in order to get to the hotel. We weren't told until a couple weeks before our stay that a bus was required to reach the property. We were stunned to find that bus tickets for our family of four were almost TWICE as expensive as the $285 room we booked for a single night. The property's website told us we would be reimbursed only 80% of the cost. We were a little disappointed, but were content that we were able to cancel the reservation. We contacted the property via email. To our surprise, they told us we would lose the entire cost of the booking. Ultimately, we booked elsewhere and disputed the charge with our credit card company. They ruled in our favor and we received a credit for the full cost of the hotel room.
