The village on the island of Luf in the remote Hermit Islands of Papua New Guinea. This village already has problems with rising sea levels, but the problem will only get worse. We visited the island in 2013 on our sailboat.
Kokopo is the capital of East New Britain in Papua New Guinea. The capital was moved from Rabul in 1994 when the volcanoes Tavurvur and Vulcan erupted (in the background). On Sunday March 29, 2015, a strong earthquake of at least 7.5 magnitude, which if confirmed would be the strongest earthquake in the world up to that point for 2015, was recorded near Kokopo.

There is a sharp contrast between the cleanliness of Kokopo Beach Bungalow Resort and the nearby town. The resort was an unexpectedly welcome haven.
