I am writing to formally complain about my recent stay, which was booked three weeks in advance under a “Reserve Now, Pay Later” option. Despite the stated policy, I was charged four days prior to arrival without confirmation or access codes. For weeks leading up to the trip, I attempted to contact the property using the email addresses and phone numbers listed. The emails I received were written in Spanish and did not include any access information. The phone numbers provided were international numbers that either did not work without an international plan, rang unanswered, or were disconnected. Even Expedia, acting as a third-party representative, made multiple unsuccessful attempts to reach the property.
I did not receive an email in English with the access code until one hour before my wife landed in Puerto Rico at approximately 9:00 PM, which caused significant stress and uncertainty. Upon arrival, the room was completely unacceptable and unsanitary. The space had a strong odor of sewage, animals (including cats), and outside debris. The room was extremely small and had a long rectangular window with no blind or covering, offering no privacy. The private bathroom was in deplorable condition:
There was no roof over the shower area, and because it was raining, I was unable to shower
Visible urine stains were present on the walls and floorboards
A large spider web was located directly behind the showerhead
The bathroom door did not fully close, allowing odors
