”Our lodge was close to the motorway and you could heart the traffic noise day and night. location is nice to close the beach, but the distance to main street is bit far by foot.”

Short distance from the Hokitika town and easy access to Hokitika Gorge. Breakfast is delicious (don't forget to discuss the subtleties of different Marmite with Fraser). Can whole heartedly recommend this place for everytype passenger.”

”Literally the cleanest room I’ve ever stayed in…and my expectations are sky high! Place looked and felt brand new. No wall scuffs, no nasty grout, no warn carpet. It was adorable! Location was great too. Easy parking and just a short walk to the beach and the restaurants in town.”

”WARNING: only hotel in the world with a 16:00 check in. If you can’t be bothered to staff the hotel at least leave a key box like every other hotel. Unfortunately we didn’t have time to waste waiting for 16:00 so checked into the Beachfront hotel in town for the same price and standard check in. ”

”There was parking outside every unit for 1 vehicle. The rooms were fresh and provided the needed towels and blankets. Extra pillows and blankets in the room too. The owner Simon went above and beyond when we arrived, during a power cut (Narly storm chased us into Hokitika). He made sure we knew what was open for food and that we had a candle for a room until the power came back on.”

”Room was quite musty smelling. Carpet old and in need of a deep clean at least or replacing. The sofa also old and smelly. I wouldnt want to sit on it. Kitchen fixtures also old and inside them could do with a good clean and replacement or removal of liners. ”

”We loved our stay in the Blackhouse Cottage, and wished we could have stayed longer. It was gorgeously appointed and well set out. The beds were super comfortable and we were snug and warm in the cold. So cozy and the perfect place to unwind and relax. We would stay here again and again. ”

”We spend one night here in December. This holiday park is surrounded by sea on one side, cemetery on one side and airfield on the third side. With that in mind, we had a good stay here, with no planes landing or taking off during our stay. (No ghost or zombies either.) The room in which we stayed, was fairly good and equipped, but had a CRT TV, which was a surprise. But well, who watches TV every day when touring New Zealand? The public shower/WC area was little dirty, but good enough for one...

”At the time of writing, this hotel has a 9.2 on Expedia. That is truly absurd. This hotel is old (they don’t call it “historic” for nothing) and run down (featuring peeling wallpaper, a saggy matress, threadbare carpet and a kitchen that looks like it was built in the 80s). Making things worse, there is literally not a single thing of interest in Kumara (it only exists because it is a stop on the West Coast Wilderness Trail).
