Amazing Stay Beautiful Surroundings
The hammocks were so nice and relaxing. There was even monkeys and parrots in the yard. The beach was magnificent and we really had a great time. I can’t say enough nice things. Ben was such a great host. We will be back!

Surf and chill at Avellana Beach
Ben is an awesome host! He went above and beyond to make our stay as comfortable as possible. Walking through the boardwalk every day to the beach was a great experience. We really enjoyed our week there. Thanks Ben for everthing!

A wonderful jungle/beach adventure!
Ben met us and welcomed us and showed us around. He gave us great ideas for meals and beach activities, even bringing us a boogie board. Howler monkeys all around in the trees. Two charming cats welcomed us too. The treehouse is a bit rustic but truly a great Costa Rican experience! Our host Ben even joined us for breakfast at the local restaurant. Loved getting to know him!! The mangrove walk to the beach is magical just after sunset and Lola’s restaurante on the beach was a great hangout place with a fun vibe and great food! Highly recommend for the adventurous souls!

Fun Tree House Property
This house was a lot of fun and in a good location that is close to a beautiful beach. Ben was an amazing host. He checked up on us, gave us excellent recommendations on things to do and places to eat, gave us access to the beautiful boardwalk accessing the beach, and most of all was extremely nice. The house is a fun Costa Rican house also. It has two levels and had hammocks outside. There is also a small loft on a third level. The house is located inside a locked gate, which is nice for security. We appreciated the stay.

Poor condition of floor, kitchen, bathroom, bedding, moldy a/c, doors, overall dissatisfaction wud be an understatement...our driver/friend would not go inside...we intend ask for partial refund...only stayed 2 out of 3 days...if we had an option of relocating, we wud have in a new york minute...we renamed it the Fred Flintsone house....marketing photos not accurate at all, same w reviews- no way 5 stars which were the reviews...we did not want to spend any time there....sorry but true...2 starving cats in yard that we fed, no coffee filters to even start the visit...we left some for next unfortunate guest...really felt cheated...bath faucet sprays you with water...poor shower... We can't figure out how they clean anything. Because the interior of the bathroom walls were a heavy stone, and showed real wear...sorry but true, all of this...we are not picky travellers, but this was the bottom of the barrel...we never really unpacked

These people did not even arrive till half way into their reservation, which was one and a half days late. They were very weird and peculiar people who did not mention a thing and we were communicating like friends the entire time. Everything was clean with literally brand new sets of sheets and blankets. There are a few recently cracked floor tiles which we are about to replace once we have a big enough opening on our calendar. The ACs were just serviced, one of them completely grand new, and we don’t get mold and take every precaution against this here in the jungle. Our cats have a home on our over 1/2 acre property here and they get fed 5 times a day. The male cat is a Maine Coone breed and very vocal. Most everyone adores them and they keep the critters away. We primarily get 5 star reviews but tend to have a hard time with city people who don’t like nature and tranquility.

We really loved our stay at the treehouse, and Ben was a wonderful host. It was a perfect place to have two small families stay on the same property but in separate houses. The beach wasn’t far and Ben was very helpful with recommendations of restaurants and also in setting up our airport transportation. We had a wonderful Christmas vacation!

Great Beach Getaway!
Me and a small group stayed at both places on Ben's property. The accommodations were nice for what I have experienced in Costa Rica. The property was a short walk to the beach and Ben's was a very responsive host!

A Rustic Wonderland!
The lodging is perfectly fine for a beach vacation, Ben makes the overall experience a 5+! We had a minor issue upon check in, which Ben remedied with sincere apologies. The beaches are beautiful and the upper level deck was a great hang out spot where we spent evenings reminiscing about our childhood. If you are looking for a beach vacation with the basics AND nature at its finest, the tree house is the place for you. Thank you Ben, Chachi and Yoko!

Month at the Tree House
Spent April at the tree house and had a wonderful time. Ben is a great host. Love the location and the peaceful vibe of the property. The property is rustic so don't expect luxury but it is very charming and comfortable. We really enjoyed the upstairs deck and chilled in the hammock often. The neighborhood is great. Love the beach and the local restaurants. if you are looking for a luxury experience this is not your place. If you are looking for an authentic local experience in a quiet community close to a beautiful beach, great waves, and some good restaurants this is for sure a gem. I found great relaxation and peace there. I will be back for sure. Thanks Ben!

Great vibe!
We were spoiled with getting to see 10 howler monkeys in the tree outside the treehouse. Our main objective was to be at the beach as much as possible. We either walked or drove the short distance. Plenty of local food options between the house and beach. Felt close to nature with the sounds and sightings of birds, geckos, monkeys , iguanas and resident cats.

Laid back getaway
The host, Ben is kind & knowledgeable, super friendly, there when you need him, and respectful of your space. The location was perfect for us, walking distance to a couple small restaurants/bars, and another hotel area (Las Olas) with great staff/food. The walk to the beach (through Las Olas) is fabulous! There is also Lola's restaurant on the south end of the beach. Good surfing (Ben rents surfboards), swimming & sunsets. Recommend having a rental car to visit other North & South beaches for day trips. We rented an SUV which was great because the local roads are not paved. Go knowing you'll be staying in a place close to nature, lots of fun jungle noises (howler monkeys, birds, bugs etc) wifi, A/C, all worked great. Hammocks were comfy, and the upper porch is the best place to hangout. Friendly cats kept us company. Something to have in mind if it's windy, power can go out, it comes back on quickly. We happened to be there during an unseasonably windy week, but Ben was on top of it all. Honestly, we didn't even notice power was out, you can enjoy the outdoors without it. (Headlamps are nice to have, mostly for the walk on road at night). There are a couple places on the property, and a house he rents in front, on the way to the Treehouse. Once you're there it feels very private. Definitely worth the price. We didn't want to leave!

Perfect Costa Rica Beach getaway!
This was the perfect place for a week vacation. We have never been to Costa Rica and didn't really know what to expect. We were traveling with one teenager and two young adults and ourselves, and this property and location was perfect for our family. Short walk to the beach and the sunsets are amazing. The grounds were beautiful. We rented the home in the back of the property and it was perfect. Great kitchen two queen beds and a lovely rock bathroom downstairs and queen bedroom suite upstairs with an awesome deck with a hammock. Perfect for our family. We enjoyed our stay so much and Ben was so helpful securing tours for us and giving us great information on beaches, snorkeling and restaurants to visit. This was a great vacation for our family and we hope to visit again!

Romantic Getaway
We were looking for a place to getaway for just the two of us and this was the perfect spot! Beautiful cabin away from everything. Once we were there we never left as it had everything we needed. Check-in and management were amazing! The propane tank for the grill was empty but it wasn’t that big of a deal. The long gravel driveway can be a little tricky as it is steep in areas and the turn around is small but we didn’t have any major issues and we had a Ford Flex. Overall it was 5 stars and we’ll definitely be back!

Perfect beach getaway
Had an amazing time at Ben's place in Playa Avellanas. The treehouse was the perfect spot to chill and relax while being conveniently located near the beach and near lots of good eating spots. The place is very quaint and rustic but, that's our style -- if you aren't the camping type this place might not be for you as you are close with nature! Hammocks were well utilized by us -- so comfortable and relaxing and the perfect spot to completely unwind. Our host, Ben was so amazing and instantly you feel like you've know him forever. He makes sure everything is taken care of and is such a nice guy!! Things we enjoyed during our stay: - gelato next door - day trips to Pirate's Bay, Playa Negra, Tamarindo - Reina's chocolate shop -- do the tastings!! - boogie boarding...great surf on the beach - amazing smoothies at most restaurants (passionfruit is a must) This is such a great way to enjoy the Gaunacaste region of Costa Rica! Thank you Ben for the most amazing stay...keep in touch!!

Best Vacation ever wonderful stay
The property was well maintained. It had a cleaning crew that even offered to do laundry for us and clean every day if we needed them to. The place was spotless when we arrived. The scenery in the backyard was absolutely beautiful. There was a lot of space outside to enjoy the scenery. We even had a troop of howler monkeys join us for part of the day. There was also this beautiful bird that started to visit us every day and got so used to us that it would eat out of our hand. Boogie boards on site and an outside grill. Great gelato place next door, Barney and his wife are the best, short walk to the beach through cabinas las olas and a little mini mart within walking distance we got to know the guy there very well also. Everyone we have met has been so kind and so helpful best customer service experience I have ever encountered and all the restaurants around there are absolutely amazing great food which we would not have known about if it wasn't for our host Ben. Out of all the things I could compliment about this property I would say that the interaction we had with Ben was what really made it the perfect stay. He was so helpful in so many ways. He would tell us the events in the area we could go see, different places to visit and where to eat. If we had any kind of issue whatsoever it was addressed immediately. Answered any questions we had. He was so helpful. His cleaning ladies were also so kind and polite. None of them were ever intrusive. We welcomed Ben to sit and talk with us because he was such great company. He's a very kind and thoughtful person and made sure our every need was met with a smile on his face. It was such a pleasure to have met them all. They were all very amazing warm and welcoming people. I would highly recommend staying here. The overall experience was wonderful. We were pura vida for sure. Not a worry in the world. PS I forgot to mention the cats on the property. They were so friendly and felt they were part of our little family. I enjoyed having them there. I felt comfortable knowing they were there to keep any kind of critters away. One more thing, we very much enjoyed the hammocks outside especially the one on the deck each one of us took our turn falling asleep in them because it was so comfortable and peaceful. Definitely take advantage of the hammocks. I really can't say enough about the hospitality that was shown. Amazing place amazing people. Thank you Ben and crew.

Adorable Bungalo
We absolutely loved this place. I enjoyed the location because it is across the street from a private beach access and very quiet. I love that it is fully secured and enclosed. We rented both homes on this property at once, so it was really cool for our group...we didn't even need a car. I like that this home has it's own private garden especially with gorgeous pink flowers that give it a beautiful romantic feel. Our host did a great job and provided surf boards for everyone to use; we felt really welcomed. The bathroom is brand new and we had no issues with water, internet or electricity (always lucky when in rugged Latin America). In short - we can't wait to go back! Highly recommended spot. Beautiful tropical environment quiet and secluded
Well maintained property with maid services and gardeners taking care of the property it was simple and easy to enjoy. Living in the tree house apartment was amazing, it had everything I needed to cook for myself, sleep well on a comfy bed, and wake up to the sound of the birds chirping. I spent a lot of time drinking coffee and reading in the hammocks on the deck as well as doing yoga in the mornings while listening to the birds. The beach was a short walk and I played in the surf all day and enjoyed the culinary arts in Playa Avellanas and Playa Negra. Friendly neighbors and staff, tons of iguanas and monkeys to see and flowers to pick. Perfect place for a solo surfer-traveler with world class waves right there or a couple looking for a peaceful vacation. Secluded enough to where I could retreat and watch apple tv or be on the internet in my solitude and in a cool environment. The wifi was fast and reliable, and the owner was quick to respond to any questions I had about the place, and even helped me to know where to paddle out at the break. The property was very secure and I felt safe staying there. Would highly recommend to anyone trying to get off the beaten path of the local tourist scene, truly a hidden gem.

Teetering on the edge of acceptability
When I look back on past reviews and now contemplate my own review, I feel like we received a cute rental that may have been neglected through the off season. The owner was very responsive via whatsapp and I appreciated that very much. There were just a lot of unexpected things we had to deal with. Little things like we didn't find out the gate had a key lock instead of a code lock, so when we arrived we were very confused as to how to enter the gate and if we even had the right location. Luckily, the gelato owners next door were friendly and explained how we could enter the property. The gate was heavy to open and close, pretty much needing two people. Also, we saw a handful of big spiders, ants, and a roach in the house. After the first night, we used towels to block under the front and back door since there was obvious holes that could use caulking/tighter fit. We also found leaving the lights on at night kept the spiders for wanting to come in. I tried to lay in the hammock upstairs, but an old mattress was leaned up against it. Sheets lay drying in the sun (and being rained on) the whole trip. Like i said, just a bit neglected. We had to start to think about our stay as if we were camping and that helped our mindset. For the good news: we really enjoyed the walk to and from the beach through Los Olas. Once on the beach, if you turn right and walk 15 minutes it will bring you to Hacienda Pinilla Beach Club for breakfast/lunch/dinner and a pool. Cost was $35/person to use the facilities, but since we accessed by the beach we seemed to slip through the cracks of paying that fee. The food was good! If you turn left on the beach from the access boardwalk, you get to Lola's restaurant which was a nice relaxed place to sit on the beach or hammock. The A/C worked well in the house rental. It was very nice to have TV set up with Netflix, Apple TV, etc. The bed was comfy. The refrigerator, coffee pot, and toaster oven all worked. My hope is the owner will stay at his own property to see and implement the necessary changes to restore it into a comfortable, hopefully mostly bug free environment.

Thank you for your feedback. We re-greased the gate wheels and put on a new coded lock for easy entry. We also had our maintenance man address the caulking, and fumigate which we do often. There is a lot of wildlife here. If you leave the doors open critters will come inside. That was an outdoor bed which is usually made. We have since changed cleaning ladies so that will definitely not happen again. Our guests and ourselves always access Hacienda Pinilla Beach Club through the beach and it is always free for entry when you patronize their bars or restaurants.

best warm weather vacation ever!!
We had our best warm weather vacation ever, thanks to Ben and his wonderful Playa Avellanas Tree House! We needed to escape our cold home in Anchorage, Alaska, & charge up on vitamin D, and give the kids a break from the back to school blues. We were hoping to escape the tourist path, yet stay safe, and give the kids a chance to experience some of the unique animal life and incredible beaches of Costa Rica. Our expectations were overwhelmingly exceeded! The house with its two stories, had plenty of room for our two kids (8 & 10 years old) to spread out and give mom and dad some space. The hammocks were great for siesta time, and Netflix helped the kids stay connected enough with normal life so as not to get home sick. The kitchenette, including a full refrigerator, was perfect for allowing us to prepare meals so we didn’t have to eat out all the time. The bathroom is beautiful with the green stone from Guatemala and has a full shower, no tub—think beach house! Besides the domestic animals, in the morning hours, we could hear birds chirping and monkeys howling. We would be remiss if we didn’t mention the resident iguana! The property is surrounding by a cactus reinforced fence with a paddle locked gate. Very safe! A five-minute walk and you’re at Cabinas Las Olas, a fabulous outdoor restaurant—great for breakfast and lunch! Five more minutes and you’re at the Playa Avellanas, an amazing tropical beach! As special as the property is, what really made this place extraordinary for us, was the incredible generosity and hospitality of the owner Ben. From restaurant advice to extra towels, Ben was there to help guide us to the best warm weather vacation we’ve ever experienced! Thank you so much Ben!

Don’t book the property!!
Ok, let’s start with the entrance to the property. The huge wooden gate that you had to open was very hard to open, my wife could not open it without my help and you had to wade through weeds to get to it! Once through the gate the grounds of the property was so overgrown and trash everywhere that made you not want to go to either unit of the property. There was bed sheets and covers hanging on rails of both units and the key was not left at either unit. When contacted by the property manager he knew we were not happy about the property and offered the other unit because it was supposed to be an upgrade. He had to send a cleaning lady to open the upgraded house, she started cleaning and we started looking around the house and you could tell that it hadn’t been maintained for a while, so that is when we knew there was no way we were going to stay there! The property was nothing like the pictures, we are not real picky people, but we do expect cleanliness. We will end by saying that even though the booking was non refundable, the host was happy to refund our money. We had to find another place to stay in the area, but was able to do so with some help from the locals. Ken and Regina

We have added more grease to the gate so it now opens much easier. These renters showed up on the wrong day at the wrong time. All of our workers were in the middle of maintenance and laundry. Still we tried to accommodate as best we can. Most of our renters can’t say enough nice things we get 5 stars for a reason.

This was a really good trip. My kids loved it. The house was simple but charming. The property was very safe and secure. The gardener was there any time we had an issue, and Ben was always very responsive.

Definitely one of our best vacations ever!
Our stay at Ben's beach house at Playa Avellanas CR was one of our best vacations ever. This was the authentic Costa Rican experience we were looking for. Miguel was there to greet us and was very helpful giving us the rundown on the property. Ernesto was in and out through out the week managing the property and making sure we had everything we needed, he was also extremely helpful. The house and property were a great value, and worked well for our family which consisted of myself, my wife and our 5 year old son. It had a 1 bedroom casita downstairs with full kitchen, small bar, living space with a nice futon couch that could be made into another bed, bathroom, and flat screen TV with Apple TV, and another separate full bedroom and bathroom upstairs with another TV, and a huge balcony with a hammock and table. This was fine for us and would be ideal for two couples or a larger family. Playa Avellanas was one of the best beaches around especially for surfing and kids. It has a huge sandy beach that goes on forever with a beach break and some little reef breaks. A lot of sand bottom good for swimming too. The walk to the beach through Cabinas Las Olas takes 10-12 minutes and is very scenic with howler monkeys, iguanas and mangrove bridges. You can also drive to Lola’s in about 3 minutes and be on the beach even faster. I would highly recommend a rental car just to see the sites and get to the bigger store once in a while, but their are taxis for that, and the small store 2 blocks away. Overall we felt taken care of and had a great adventure.

Lovely serene and really secure
This was one of those experiences that will stay with me for a long time. The house is tranquil, stylish and super cool. The beach is spectacular whether you want to surf on the five different options (all at one beach) or just relax and take in the views... You can easily walk to the beach or bring a car and open up all the other nearby opportunities. Ben is an incredible host! He is mellow, knows the area and truly enjoys having folks stay at his awesome place. I will definitely be back!

Great stay special experience for us
Rustic house with good ambience. The kids were upstairs and we were downstairs. We watched Netflix and made it really nice dinners. They were nice restaurants as well and the walk to the beach was gorgeous.

The house was clean and comfortable and very different than anything else we have ever stayed in. We enjoyed relaxing in the Hamic's and our long walks on the beach. My husband and I love watching birds and this place was full of them. Highly recommended

really cool vacation experience for the family
The house was really big and the view from the top was amazing. The hammocks were so very nice and relaxing. The beach was incredible. We did a tour to the volcano as well.

best tropical vacation ever!!
We had our best tropical vacation ever, thanks to Ben and his wonderful Playa Avellanas Tree House! We needed to escape our cold home in Anchorage, Alaska, & charge up on vitamin D, and give the kids a break from the back to school blues. We were hoping to escape the tourist path, yet stay safe, and give the kids a chance to experience some of the unique animal life and incredible beaches of Costa Rica. Our expectations were overwhelmingly exceeded! The house with its two stories, had plenty of room for our two kids (8 & 10 years old) to spread out and give mom and dad some space. The hammocks were great for siesta time, and Netflix helped the kids stay connected enough with normal life so as not to get home sick. The kitchenette, including a full refrigerator, was perfect for allowing us to prepare meals so we didn’t have to eat out all the time. The bathroom is beautiful with the green stone from Guatemala and has a full shower, no tub—think beach house! Besides the domestic animals, in the morning hours, we could hear birds chirping and monkeys howling. We would be remiss if we didn’t mention the resident iguana! The property is surrounding by a cactus reinforced fence with a paddle locked gate. Very safe! A five-minute walk and you’re at Cabinas Las Olas, a fabulous outdoor restaurant—great for breakfast and lunch! Five more minutes and you’re at the Playa Avellanas, an amazing tropical beach! As special as the property is, what really made this place extraordinary for us, was the incredible generosity and hospitality of the owner Ben. From restaurant advice to extra towels, Ben was there to help guide us to the best warm weather vacation we’ve ever experienced! Thank you so much Ben!

Perfect Costa Rica Beach getaway!
This was the perfect place for a week vacation. We have never been to Costa Rica and didn't really know what to expect. We were traveling with one teenager and two young adults and ourselves, and this property and location was perfect for our family. Short walk to the beach and the sunsets are amazing. The grounds were beautiful. We rented the home in the back of the property and it was perfect. Great kitchen two queen beds and a lovely rock bathroom downstairs and queen bedroom suite upstairs with an awesome deck with a hammock. Perfect for our family. We enjoyed our stay so much and Ben was so helpful securing tours for us and giving us great information on beaches, snorkeling and restaurants to visit. This was a great vacation for our family and we hope to visit again!

Avellanas Across the road Beach
Ben was very responsive and took care of problems that arose. The place was further from the beach than anticipated and included exiting a large security gate, walking down the road, crossing through a resort property, and then through an extensive mangrove restoration project on a plank walkway. Travel light and bring everything you need with you.

Thank you for spending your weekend with us. It was a real pleasure having you. We make it a priority to keep our clients extra secure here. We take pride in that. We have 3 different paths to the beach. You took the most scenic path with a famous wooden mangrove boardwalk that people travel from all over the world to walk and take photos on. The majority of our renters prefer this, but also you could walk direct much faster. We keep the kitchen and linens and bathrooms very well equipped. Not to mention flat screens with Apple TV’s in every bedroom and living room. This is a Tree House, like Swiss Family Robinson but we are adding more and more to it. We really appreciate this feedback and will continue to make this vacation rental better and better. Thank you Anita!

Beautiful tropical environment quiet & secluded
Well maintained property with maid services and gardeners taking care of everything it was simple and easy to enjoy. Staying their was amazing, it had everything we needed to cook for ourselves, sleep well on a tempurpedic bed, and wake up to the sound of the birds chirping. I spent a lot of time drinking coffee and reading in the hammocks on the deck as well as doing yoga in the mornings while listening to the birds. The beach was a short walk and we played in the surf all day and enjoyed the culinary arts in Playa Avellanas and Playa Negra. Friendly neighbors and staff, tons of iguanas and monkeys to see and flowers to pick. Perfect place for those looking for a peaceful vacation. Secluded enough to where we could retreat and watch apple tv or be on the internet in solitude and in a cool environment. The wifi was fast and reliable, and the owner was quick to respond to any questions I had about the place, and even helped me to know where to paddle out at the break. The property was very secure and we all felt safe staying there. Would highly recommend to anyone trying to get off the beaten path of the local tourist scene, truly a hidden gem.
