”The island is beautiful and so is the rental lodge. Huge windows with seating out on a deck where you can enjoy a full view of the lake and mountains. It’s very quiet there and although you can only get there by boat, they are very timely with picking you up and dropping you off. Communication beforehand was very good and they were responsive. We stayed here in the spring and at night it hit 31 degrees F and we had no heat. They did make our bed up with several layers of incredibly warm bedding...

I expected that it would be a homestay, but it's more like a lodge for tourists, and when you've booked a spot, some locals come and also stay there (at least that was the impression I got, things were not actually ever explained to me). Uros can be very touristy during the morning, so it was interesting to be there in the evening, and to be able to kayak around, without all the tourist boats.
