”This is our second stay at The 1857, and we’re already discussing when we can visit again. The rooms are spacious & clean. Comfortable beds, great ambiance & friendly staff.”

”Clean, safe, great sheets. I had everything I needed in my room. Not expecting to have to climb a flight of stairs. Instructions were clear and easy to follow. Good location for historic district. I would recommend. Never saw any staff. But that was explained when I made the reservation.”

”More than just updating is needed: The strong musty smell hits you as you walk into the room. The walk-in shower had dirty grout in the corners. Dark walls, dim lighting, and poor window treatments didn’t help. Staff were helpful in changing rooms, but no accessible choices so we had to climb stairs. Tub was clean but had no grab bars. Second room also had strong musty smelling.”

”The air didn’t work”

”The photos make it look like it’s fairly new and well taken care of. It is anything but. It is extremely dirty. The elevator doors didn’t look like they had ever been cleaned. There were stains all over every floor we went in and on the drapes in the room in addition to the carpet looked so dirty you didn’t want to take your shoes off. It was horrible. The mini fridge didn’t work. We told them about it and they did nothing to try and remedy it. Would not recommend!”

”Good location and great owners”

”Staff was rude for no apparent reason. There were no disagreements nothing was questioned and seemingly no reason for the reaction we felt we received anytime we engaged the staff (except the food staff!)”

”Need maintenance done first room air conditioner problem that leaked water into room mildew and mold starting and 3 electrical outlet out and changed rooms the second room sink problem reported all to front desk so hopefully it is taken care of.”

”Bathroom floor grout was completely molded. Room was incredibly humid and all the fabric surfaces were damp. The sofa in the room was tattered and stained. Sheets and beds were clean, bathroom was clean other than the molded grout. Breakfast was good. Overall property probably needs a refresh.”

”Horrible. Filthy. If I could get my money back for the night I had to stay there I would. The pictures are extremely deceiving. The sheets were stained and stunk. There was no mattress protector there. Nothing was clean about the only thing that was clean was the towels that were put in the bathroom. The shampoo dispenser was broken. Thankfully I brought my own. There was baby powder all over the back of a chair for the desk that was in there the remote had tape for the TV to hold it together...

”James was very hospitable and welcoming upon check-in and was always available to assist with any inquiries. The houses are very charming and make for a very homey, comfortable and enjoyable stay.”

”It's an older property but, that doesn’t make it bad. My bed was clean and comfortable. I felt safe as a female solo traveler. The man at the desk was very nice.”
