Lake Tennyson is a beautiful, off the beaten track destination in Canterbury, New Zealand. You can camp at the southern end of the lake and drive in from St Arnaud in Nelson Lakes National Park (to the north) or from Hanmer Springs to the south. If you have lots of cash, you can hire a helicopter (I was on a work trip when I got to go on one around the area)!
Wheelies for days when we finally hit a plateau on the Rainbow Road! This gravel road is a killer grind through New Zealand backcountry and delivers unparalleled postcard views.
