Just as advertised!
Five senior women set off on an all-girls adventure and it did not disappoint. Patrick and the "sunset team" were terrific, from the fabulous daily breakfasts to the top notch excursions that were recommended. The only negative thing I would mention is that the house could be challenging for those with disabilities, as you had to step up or down to get from room to room and there was no railing on the stairway up to the second floor. Having said that, we had no issues because we were very careful. All in all, this was a GREAT place to stay for us and I highly recommend it.

Wonderful host!
House was absolutely fantastic! Patrick helped make our day plans, and even made the reservations so we could just show up! We used his driver which was a blessing- all 6 adults admitted no one would have wanted to drive those roads. Breakfast that was included was always delicious, and enough to keep you going until dinner. We had a dinner at gingerbread that was amazing, and Patrick cooked for us one night as well. Make sure to do both!

Amazing house with great view and delicious breakfast!
We were a party of 6 adults. This was my 4th time in CR. This is the nicest house that we've stayed at. We used this house as our base for visiting Tenorio NP, Monteverde, and Arenal. It's a bit of a drive to some of the places...but that's half the fun! We were joking that our destination was only 12 miles away but took 1 1/2 hrs to get there! Views of Arenal Lake and the volcano can be seen from the patio. There wasn't a lot of birds or wildlife in the area while we were there but the views made up for it. Breakfast was included in the price. It is delicious! We had 4 different meals every day we were there. I can't pick a favorite because they were all good. Topped off with fresh fruit and smoothies! We also had them prepare a meal on our first evening there. We choose the Italian meal. There was enough leftover for the next night! There is a large indoor pool with a hot tub. The hot tub felt amazing after some of the hikes we took. The pool temp was a bit cold (68ish) for me but others in my party enjoyed it. The property is close to a small town with several restaurants and small market. It's easy to find with the WAZE app. We only had 6 adults in our group. Could easily sleep more. Plenty of room in the house to spread out. Pool house is separate and very big. This is a great property to stay at!

Fantastic place to stay
We had a wonderful stay. The house was gorgeous and the setting was picturesque. The online pictures don’t do it justice. I was a little concerned that the travel to Arenal and La Fortuna might be a little far and difficult but it wasn’t at all. Patrick made everything so easy. He booked all of our excursions and made fantastic recommendations. His family lives in a house on the property and it was very reassuring having him only minutes away. He came over every morning and checked on us and helped to plan our day. His wife, Alisa, was also very helpful and hospitable. She and a helper came over every morning and fixed the most amazing breakfasts. The pool was huge and they had foosball, pingpong, a pool table and a workout area. There wasn’t a single thing we didn’t love. If you like bird watching it was heaven. We saw toucans, parrots and dozens of other species. It was an incredible value for the money. I highly recommend this property!

Family trip to Costa Rica
Wow what a great vacation in Costa Rica! It was always a dream of mine to take my parents to Costa Rica. They are turning 72 in the next couple of months. We had a wonderful vacation and the Red Sunset of Guanacaste was the perfect place. Patrick lined up all of our excursions and took care of everything for us. The driver was waiting for us at the airport when we arrived and everything went smoothly from there. We rented a catamaran on day 2 on lake Arenal and had a great time. We travelled to La Fortuna a couple days, Rio Celeste one day, and then a waterfall close to Liberia one day. It was a great vacation filled with lots of activities! The breakfast every morning was so good and kept us going until supper most nights. Miguel who is Patrick's driver was wonderful when he drove us and when his other drivers drove us they were wonderful as well. A couple of tips: The Gingerbread house is an absolute must, best meal I've ever had. We did family style with the 7 of us and it was outstanding!! Bring cash for Miguel and you save 13% for cash. I did run short on cash. The catamaran is cash and so is horse back riding. The horse back riding is so nice at the neighbors place and the owner who is also a very proud Grandpa is adorable.The pool and hot tub are a great addition to the house. We enjoyed them at night. Remember no matter where you stay in Costa Rica you are going to have to drive to see many things. Just take it all in and remember you are on vacation!! I will return!

Absolutely Amazing Property
The host Patrick and his son Hunter are the epitome of perfect hosts. The property has so much ornate and fine detailing it's a living masterpiece. I brought my family of 16 and we had private rooms with bathrooms and beds to spare. I recommend you let Patrick make dinner as it was exquisite and perfectly delivered. The breakfast they serve is over the top with meats and eggs and breads and smoothies and fresh fruit. No expense was spared to make our stay memorable. We will certainly book here again on our next trip. It was a pleasure to stay here and we are sad to leave. Simply amazing....

BEST VRBO STAY EVER
We could not have asked for a more lovely stay at Patricks place. These guys truly know how to take care of your every need. Couldn't have asked for a better place!
I am so glad we decided on staying here. It was a culmination of things that made our stay perfect! 1st was Patrick and his wife Alisa were perfect hosts. The meals they prepared were tasty and filling, we didn't have to plan anything(Patrick did it all for us), the house was soooo comfortable. It felt like home and the views!!!! Oh my goodness, the veiws were amazing. I would sit out on the balcony and have my coffee with their friendly dogs while looking out at the volcano and watching pelicans land in the trees in front of me. Simply soul refreshing!!!

Highly recommend this property!
Our group of ten adults stayed at the Sunset Nov 1-5,'23 and could not have been more pleased with our experience. Villa – The home is amazing with views of Lake Arenal and the Arenal Volcano. The humidity in the Cloud Forest can be quite thick, but the AC units in the bedrooms made sleeping very comfortable. A separate refrigerator for guests was perfect. Food – a delicious breakfast was prepared each day by Luisa & Mar. Each day was a little different but always included freshly prepared smoothies (to which we added rum). We opted to have Patrick make dinner for us for two of the nights – both dinners were absolutely amazing. We also had fabulous meals at Gingerbread Restaurant & Hotel and Tinajas Arenal. Transportation – Miguel was our driver for our stay (airport pickup & excursions) and was absolutely, positively, without question, a highlight of our trip. He took great care of us and was always happy to make stops whenever we wanted and also took us to out of the way places for food, drinks, or amazing vistas. Excursions – take Patrick seriously when he says wait to book your excursions until you get to CR and meet with him. Our group enjoyed: white water rafting, Bogarin Trail sloth park, animal rescue center, hanging bridges, Baldi Hot Springs, and shopping. Helpful hints: Download WhatsApp before you leave home, best way to communicate w/ host while in CR. CC/US$ taken (MC/VISA mostly; Amex/Discover sometimes). Take raincoats/ponchos, reusable bags for shopping.

Peaceful in Arenal
The house is big, plenty of room for family get together. The breakfasts every morning fixed by Patrick’s wife and a helper were suburb. Patrick fixed dinners for us almost every night and was very good at all the dietary restrictions we gave him. Everyone was very tolerant of two very rambunctious boys. There were no toys for the youngest at 2 yr old. But he did enjoy the pool and hot tub. The bedrooms were large comfortable each with their own bathrooms. The kitchen had everything you could ever need. The outdoor patio over looking lake Arenal was wonderful. We had a couple mornings were the clouds were right on top of us, hence the Cloud Forest. We hired Miguel as our driver for the week and he was suburb in his accommodation of our group and knowledge of the area. He acted as our tour guide. While the older members went on adventures Miguel took others with the 2 yr old to wonderful playgrounds and stayed with us till time to go back and pick up the others. I would highly recommend The Sunset for large group vacations.

We stayed at this property for four nights in August 2023 and had a great time! It's a beautiful home with amazing views and absolutely wonderful hosts!! Breakfast was delicious every morning and we had dinner prepared for the twelve of us as well one evening! Patrick checked in on us everyday to make sure we had everything we needed and to book/arrange our daily outings. Miguel was our daily driver (which Patrick arranged for us too), as activities we some miles away, and we loved him too!

Fantastic Retreat with a Great Host!
We couldn’t have been happier with the choice we made to stay at this property! Two families with teenagers were easily accommodated in this spacious home away from home, which included private baths in each bedroom, a comfortable living area, and a separate pool house complete with indoor pool and games that our kids thoroughly enjoyed! The property owner, Patrick, was like our own personal concierge…checking in with us each morning, scheduling tours, helping with reservations and attending to all of our needs. Elisa and Mar prepared hearty, delicious breakfasts for us each day, along with a fantastic traditional Costa Rican dinner the night we arrived. Miguel, our driver, was also wonderful, sharing his knowledge of the region and also pointing out lots of things (sloths, frogs, monkeys…) that otherwise may have gone unseen by our untrained eyes! When we lost an item at one of the sites we visited, Patrick and Miguel were instrumental in helping us to get it back…we were so thankful as it never would have happened without their local connections! Thanks again for a great stay! We had a fantastic time at Red Sunset!

The best trip with the most accommodating host!
We love Costa Rica so much that we planned our family vacation with 19 of us (ages 12-45) staying at Patrick's VRBO. From the moment our driver Miguel and his daughter picked us up from the airport, we knew we were in good hands. Patrick set everything up for us, every excursion, dinner reservations, grocery shopping, drivers, delicious fresh breakfast every morning, and home made dinner that didn't disappoint. The view from this home was just beautiful and peaceful especially first thing in the AM when it's still quite and you could sit on porch, drink your coffee and watch the parrots and toucans play in the trees and love on the neighborhood dogs. The bedrooms has ice cold A/C, the living room and kitchen don't have A/C, but there are plenty of fans to bring into these areas so you can very comfortably still hang out with everyone and not be hot. The kids and the adults took full advantage of the chessboard, pool and hottub. Most of the excursions we did were an hour away, but again Patrick booked everything and Miguel and his daughter Pamala were there everyday ready to drive us and make any pit stops we requested. Miguel gives you history on the area and always made sure the whole party was safely in van to go to next stop or return home. We all highly recommend the GingerBread House for dinner, you won't be disappointed! Make sure to stop in their German Town and get a icecream coffee and some food. We will 100% go back to this great VRBO, thank you Patrick and team!!

Was like heaven!
It was the perfect mix of feeling like you were in a luxury resort but yet you were experiencing all the beauty and culture of a unique Costa Rica experience. The location was gorgeous, service received from our host Patrick was amazing. He organized everything for us upon request and gave perfect suggestions when requested. The breakfast every morning was like a delicious feast. We had the whole house for our family alone and just walked out the door each morning to our fabulous drivers and did not worry about a thing. So many birds of paradise, toucans , horses all seen every morning from our patio. It was truly a vacation of a lifetime for me and my family . My husband , and children ages 24, 22 and 19. The perfect adventure with the perfect mix of relaxation.

The Red Sunset is a great property for the family. Multiple rooms each with an en suite bathroom provided great space for the whole family. Daily breakfast was AMAZING and so filling before heading out for adventure nearby. Family getaway
This was our first time in Costa Rica and Patrick and his team made it remarkable! The location was pretty central to all of the things we wanted to see and do, and our driver (Miguel) was a gem. They each made recommendations for us to maximize our time and enjoyment. Patrick booked all of our activities for us and now I don’t ever want to travel any other way! It really took all of the stress and worry about planning off my plate for the week. The breakfasts each morning were delicious! It was wonderful to be able to choose what time we wanted breakfast each day so we could either sleep in or get a jump on the day. Patrick cooked two meals for us and they were superb. The house was so spacious. Each room has its own bathroom. My kids loved that no one had to share bathrooms. We saw toucans every morning off the patio and other types of birds and hummingbirds. Patrick’s friendly dogs helped us feel right at home as well. I hope we can come back again and stay! It was wonderful!

Breathtaking views
This home offers old world beauty and charm with modern amenities (bathroom in every bedroom!) and absolutely breathtaking views of Lake Arenal and the volcano. Patrick ensured all of our needs and interests were taken care of, arranging multiple excursions....this allowed us to literally show up in Costa Rica without planning a thing, yet we zip-lined, ATV'd, went on a chocolate/coffee tour, and swam in a waterfall. Additionally the daily breakfasts were amazing...we felt truly spoiled. Patrick removes the "daunting" factor of visiting a foreign country. I highly recommend this property!

We had a wonderful time staying at the Red Sunset. The property is absolutely beautiful, both inside and out. The views are incredible. Patrick is a wonderful, accommodating host. It was such a treat to have breakfast made for us each morning, and the option to also have wonderful dinners, and all of the food was delicious. Patrick was kind enough to recommend and arrange several outings for us, and contact our transportation company to coordinate with them. A slice of heaven at Red Sunset!
Our stay at the Red Sunset house was heavenly! Our group of 8, siblings and wives waited three years to visit Costa Rica. The pandemic had other plans for us which delayed our trip but Patrick worked with us to visit in 2023. This beautiful home is spacious with well tended bedrooms and bathrooms enough for a group as large as ours. Cheerful and bright with lovely painted walls and tiled floors, Red Sunset was a dream come true. The grounds are so green and groomed, filled with flowers and trees. The pool house and Jacuzzi provided welcome entertainment for swimming, relaxing and playing pool. A highlight for us were the delicious breakfasts prepared by Alicia and Marjane which included local fare and treats such as banana bread french toast, plantain and fresh fruit. The smoothies were delightful as well. We spent a lot of time on the patio which overlooks Lake Arenal. most of our group loves wildlife and birds and we got to see quite a few of them. We had a great night hike with Crazy Allen, quite a unique experience for sure! Patrick did a great job advising us on activities and making reservations. A wonderful place to be in such a beautiful country!

We were two families, 4 adults and 4 teens. The home is very spacious, clean and comfortable. The view of the lake and Arenal Volcano are beautiful. The breakfasts every morning were delicious and something we looked forward to everyday. Patrick and his wife were simply AMAZING! Patrick was able to coordinate all of our tours and activities. We stumbled upon a new restaurant (La Tortuga)that just opened up 2 weeks before we arrived..it is located right beside the “Lake Arenal” colourful sign..recommend stopping there for a great meal, beer, and coffee. Look forward to our next trip to Arenal

Absolutely Amazing
We had a wonderful time at this property and wish we could have spent more time here. Patrick was an amazing host. He helped us book our tours and gave us recommendations on where to eat. (Had one of the best meals I have ever eaten at place called Gingerbread down the road). Toucans would come and visit each morning and the view of the Arenal Volcano was perfect. I would love to be able to come back and stay with you again.

Exceeded expectations
We had a wonderful experience at the Sunset. We felt that we had a more authentic Costa Rican experience than you would get at a large resort. The house has a unique vibe to it that you just don't get at a resort or hotel. The wildlife on and near the property was amazing. We even had a late night encounter with a Tapir on the road to the property! Patrick could not have been a better host. He is able to arrange just about any activity you could want on just a days notice. He is happy to set up as much or as little as you want. He takes all the hassle out of trying to figure things out on your own. The morning breakfasts are delicious and are a nice mix of traditional and local foods. This was our first time in Costa Rica and Patrick and his wonderful home have ensured that it won't be the last.

Seems too good to be true, but it's not!
From the moment we arrived, I was blown away. The drive up, the lush greenery on property, views to die for (when it's clear out), all before going inside. I was looking for a house that felt like more of a true Costa Rican vibe, not a contemporary, and that is exactly what this is. The home is not fancy, but it's clean, beautiful, and exactly what I wanted. We had 6 adults, and there was so much room for us. So many beds, a kitchen that has all you could need, and a washer and dryer for us to use after all the fun activities of the day. Speaking of activities....the second we booked, the wonderful host Patrick asked us what activities our family wanted to do. We are an active bunch, and gave him quite a long list, from hanging bridges, horseback riding, ATVs, zip lining, waterfall repelling, sloths..... He made it all happen with ease! He also made reservations for our dinners and cooked in for us one night. So, not only is he a host, he's basically your trip coordinator as well. And you have the bonus option of hiring his driver Miguel. Miguel was amazing! He was given instructions every morning from Patrick on all we were doing that day, and off we went, with the only concern being having fun! The house also comes with an amazing breakfast every morning, and a housekeeper daily that is such a sweet woman. She made all beds after we left each day, washed towels, cleaned up breakfast, took out the trash and left you with nothing to worry about. The house also had musical instruments to play, board games, chess, puzzles, a pool house with hot tub and gym, and we took advantage of all of it! Every person in our party of 6 wants to go back, and we would all choose Patricks place again. On top of all that, the cost is an unreal value as well. I highly highly recommend this property to anyone. It made all our Costa Rica vacation dreams come true!

The Sunset at Guanacaste was the perfect vacation spot for visiting Arenal.
We couldn’t have asked for a better experience for our first 4 nights in Costa Rico! This house is absolutely amazing and the host, Patrick, his wife, and staff ensured all our needs were meet, just staying on the property was an experience! Every morning Elissa & Mar prepared 5 star authentic breakfasts for us and one evening Patrick prepared a 5 star Italian dinner…we were spoiled! Patrick shared his knowledge of the local area and we enjoyed the outings that he recommended, river float, chocolate & coffee tour and waterfall excursion! Highly highly recommend the Sunset at Guanacaste!

Not much I can say that others have not!!
13 of us - 4 adult couples and 5 teenagers - everyone got their own bed and each bedroom had its own bathroom. Being from the cold north we had to teach those that had not been to the tropics about not leaving clothing on floor or food everywhere!! Ants do love it there but if you are clean you seldom see them inside. The house is unique and has fabulous wood features. It is also away from civilization and you are able to walk on some not busy roads and view the foliage and birds and insects. The food Patrick and his wife and Mar make is fabulous - we had 10 breakfasts and each was different. Patrick either cooked for us in the evening or recommended a restaurant - all were fabulous. Miguel drove us in his large van - he made many recommendations and stops we had not planned which all turned out great. The only problem we ran into was we have 4 who get car sick - one especially and the roads along the north of the lake are very curved and even with gravol caused problems. So if that is a concern in your family it might be better to stay closer to La Fortuna. We had a great time in the rain/cloud forest and will never forget it!!

This house was as described. Lots of room. Kitchen living area are very well equipped. The thing that separates the place from others is location. It is literally a scenic overview. Beautiful! And on top of that - everyday and all day there were toucans in the tree next to the deck ! I will be back. Also, host Patrick was the best in every way.

Amazing stay
We are a family of five with three young adults. We could not have asked for a better host and rental for our first time visiting Costa Rica. Patrick described himself as a “co-pilot from a distance” and that was a perfect description. He helped us plan our daily adventures after he cooked a delicious breakfast for us every morning. The house was very well laid out and the pool and the hot tub were a great addition. We throughly enjoyed our stay and hope to be back soon!

Incredible stay and experience
This place will not disappoint. From the moment you turn onto the dirt road leading to the house you can spot it nestled in the hill surrounded by trees. The view from the home was stunning. You can tell that a lot of thought went into the home, with the choice of décor, hand carved items, decorative tiles, very spacious so you felt that you had your own space, the layout of the house to have so much light and the ability to see the beautiful view from many places in the home. The host, Patrick, was a wealth of knowledge about the area and the possible activities that we could do. He booked the activities for us and was available if we needed anything. There is a lot to do and see around the area and knowing that you have been told the options so that you can make the best decisions on things to do was amazing. There were activities that cost a little, some that cost more and some that were free. He was also able to suggest restaurants for dinner if we wanted to eat out. Waking up to the smell of a delicious breakfast waiting for us every morning was a dream. The breakfast had a variety of options, different every day, which allowed everyone to be able to enjoy. Even my picky kids were able to find something within the breakfast to eat every morning. It was a treat to not have to worry about making breakfast and also saved us money on food, which was really nice because the price of food was more than I was expecting. Patrick’s wife and housekeeper cooked the breakfast and they were excellent chefs and people. The housekeeper was there every day to freshen the house and rooms. She was quiet, friendly and you didn’t even know she was there most of the time. The pool house was great and a place that we spent much of our time when at the house. We spent time swimming, sitting in the hot tub, playing pool and ping pong. The pool is a little cold when you first jump in but is refreshing and you get use to the temperature very quickly. Some people in our group liked the hot tub very hot and others cooler, Patrick adjusted the temperature to a warmth that satisfied all. Our group consisted of myself, my wife, my 2 kids (ages 14 and 11), my mom and her husband. We all had an incredible time and didn’t want to leave. If we are ever back in Costa Rica, we will definitely book here again. Thank you, Patrick and family.

Amazing Views and hosts!
This was our second time to stay at this wonderful property! Very beautiful home with tons of space and privacy. The home is fully furnished and has everything you could want. We loved the large pool and hot tub. Most every day we enjoyed the pool for exercise and relaxation. The breakfast was delicious and nobody left hungry. Patrick went out of his way to accommodate us and also gave us privacy. Our stay was wonderful and we will be back!
