Thank you for your feedback, Jane and Richard. I’m so very sorry to read of your back issues and that you and your wife were uncomfortable during your 2-day stay here. As you noted, we strive always to be friendly and accommodating, and I wish that you had approached us after you realized you found the bed uncomfortable. We would have gladly either relocated you to another room or, if you preferred, assisted you with finding alternative lodgings for your second night in the area. Honestly, I was flummoxed by this review of the bed in room 5, since we have received only positive feedback from other guests who have stayed there, and the firm+pillow top mattress was purchased just a couple of years ago. Thinking that something must have gone catastrophically wrong, my staff and I investigated. We even stood on the box spring, thinking perhaps it had failed. We all found the bed to be quite comfortable; we definitely did not roll toward the middle and could find no other perceivable issues. I am left wondering if perhaps you stayed at a different motel during your trip and are possibly misremembering which bed gave you trouble?Regardless, beds are a priority for us. We do not regularly sleep in them ourselves, so feedback such as yours is an important element to maintaining our standards, and we thank you again for sharing your opinion.

Thank you for your feedback, Deborah. First and foremost, we very much regret that you did not enjoy your stay here. We know we can’t please everyone, but it always feels bad to us when someone leaves unhappy. Some of your concerns could have been addressed had you brought them to our attention, so I hope you keep that in mind in the future when you travel.I’m pleased to know that you were content with the cleanliness of your room, since that is a point of pride for us. I am a bit perplexed as to why you were affronted that we are a motel and not an “inn.” We do not and have never claimed to be an inn or anything other than a motel. Perhaps you read another review that mentioned that we were “like an inn”? Regardless, it is probably good that you pointed that out, so that others who might be under the impression that we are an inn will now understand that we are not. This is a small, renovated motel, with different buildings dating from the 1930s to the 1970s. The Economy Queen room you were in is part of the 1930s wing, and it is indeed small; at roughly 10.5 x 12.5 ft, it is smaller in fact than you wrote. And it is true that the floor slopes somewhat. Some of the rooms in that wing have a slope, and most people do not mind it. For those who do, we relocate them whenever possible, so it’s regrettable that you didn’t mention your concern to us. On the night you stayed, we had other rooms available that you might have been happier in. At the front desk, we have nightlights available for those who want them, but we do not put them in our rooms since we find that most people prefer a dark room for sleeping.As for our breakfast, we began serving it in our tidied-up garage for expediency during the Covid pandemic. We wanted to provide a location with good air circulation and enough room that people would feel comfortable moving through. The response we received from guests was so positive that we continued the practice even after the pandemic waned. We have some seating in the garage, some in the gazebo, and several picnic tables as well. There are trays that people use to carry their breakfast to those other areas, or sometimes to their rooms. I assume that you did not see the trays, as there was no reason to eat off of your own lap otherwise. With regard to the toaster, I wish that you had asked the breakfast attendant for assistance. Some people like a light toast and some a darker one; for this reason, there is a dial on the toaster that can adjust the level of doneness. If you had asked, we could have helped you get your bagel toasted to whatever level you desired.And finally, our rates are equal to or lower than most of the other reputable lodgings in the area. You visited New England in the fall. There is no “inn” in the area where you could have booked a room for less than half the rate you paid for your stay with us. We have a quirky, special, family-run property, full of original art, on a beautiful, 4-acre plot with a mountain
