The hotel is very grand, clean throughout and with a certain ambience. However, whilst the service was fine, it did seem to be a bit perfunctory, both at reception and in the restaurant.
One specific issue however was noise - not from guests - from, I assume the heating system, which seemed to be rumbling and roaring a lot of the night. As such, it was not a good night's sleep.
Breakfast was ok but seemed to be a little disorganised. Tea and coffee only provided when we asked for it - this shoudl either be a available in the restaurant, or be one of the first quesions 5o be asked. Food on offer was fine, although the full English breakfast was lukewarm, did not include black pudding, and it was quite obvious that the sausages, bacon and eggs (which were poached instead of fried) had been sat, not fresh cooked.
Overall, it was not a bad stay but for a 4 star, I think I expected a little more.
