Matkat – Carew Newton

My room did not match any picture shown, I was at the top floor, and the room was a loft-style room with sloping roof. No issues with a sloping ceiling, but with that comes a minute window and an enormous amount of stored heat (heatwave going on). It was well over 30 degrees in the room. No a/c, but a small fan that just made it bearable when positioned on the bedside table and blowing right at me. The room was a bit run down could do with a bit of refurbishing. If visiting outside of a heatwave, you might be just fine - but do avoid if it's warm. No fridge in the room, which I didn't expect (nor was it promised), just adding that as I do appreciate a fridge. TV worked, but small. Wifi worked fine.

Our stay was absolutely wonderful. The hotel has heartfelt staff who made us feel welcome. The accommodation was cozy and comfortable, and we loved having a nice breakfast served right to our table each morning. The hotel itself is in a beautiful building and neighborhood, with the added convenience of having parking available. It's in a fantastic location, with several nice restaurants and a supermarket nearby. We especially enjoyed being able to easily walk to Bute Park, and from there, on to Cardiff Castle and the old town. We would happily stay here again on our next visit!

The location to this hotel is amazing, just a few minutes from the trainstation and walking distance from the Cardiff Castle and the shopping streets. The room was quite old and had an "old house smell". Staff was really really really friendly and helpful. All in all it was enough for a one night stay with not that much time to hang out in the hotel.

I would highly recommend this place. The location is excellent. It’s a quiet neighborhood, yet everything is within walking distance. You don’t compromise living space for location. The unit is large, well equipped and very well maintained. Being on the third floor allows you to open windows for a nice breeze which is great in the summer. Secured off-street parking is a huge plus. I’m hard pressed to find any shortcomings. There was only one wine glass in the kitchen which was a bit odd. I guess sharing a wine glass with my wife was the most inconvenient part of the stay. So, I will give it 4.95 out of 5 stars.
