  • #TroveOn Yes, Monteriggioni just might be the quintessential walled medieval village in Tuscany. It's small enough to perhaps be called "cute" but you won't catch me using this term. Monteriggioni began as a border fortress built on a round hill by Sienna against the Florentines. It is famous for the intact defensive structure that held up against repeated Florentine attacks in the 11th century; its 10 meter high walls and 14 towers can still be seen for miles around. Monteriggioni has been featured in movies as a typical medieval village. The village is slightly elliptical in shape with two gates (a third has been plugged). The major gate tourists will use when coming from the parking lot, Porta Franca, owes its name to the Via Francigena--Monteriggione was a major stop on the pilgrimage trail from Cantebury to Rome. The Romanesque Church of Santa Maria Assunta will offer assistance with housing for modern pilgrims traveling the Francigena pilgrimage route. Monteriggioni was a sleepy village of farmers and sheep herders as late as the 1960's. Today it exists entirely for tourists and pilgrims. You'll find wine shops, a tasting room, restaurants and hotels in the small village. This is not neccessarily a disadvantage, although some times it's nice to see some locals puttering about once in a while. Where is Monteriggioni? Monteriggioni is located in the province of Siena, 14km to the northwest of Siena (54km from Florence). While it can be done as a day trip from Siena, you might be better off staying the night--Monteriggioni is much more evocative when the tourists leave late in the afternoon and you can sit in a courtyard sipping a glass of Chianti. Monteriggioni is surrounded by vineyards, and is known for its wine production.

Casa dei Fiori in the Le Bagnaie estate is exceptionally lovely, surrounded by beautifully landscaped grounds, hills and vineyards. We were treated to astonishing sunsets every night as we dined al fresco at one of the three outdoor dining tables. We enjoyed having a garden to pick from and the pool was exceptional. The interior was also lovely and comfortable with adequate accommodations for our party of three older couples. We took advantage of the opportunity to hire Serena, a local chef, to prepare dinners every other night and we were so glad we did. Her four course meals were beautifully presented and delicious. She prepares, serves and cleans up. You are near the charming town of Castellina in Chianti with groceries, other shopping and nice restaurants. The only downside at all was the long rocky dirt road, with several unmarked turns, that one must take to get to Le Bagnaie. We only navigated it in the daytime because we thought it would be more challenging in the dark and that worked great for us. One nice thing about the road is it is lined by vineyards, which were dripping with grapes during our stay, and includes trash and recycling receptacles along the way. With thanks to Annie, who patiently answered all our pre-travel questions for our wonderful weeklong stay!

This property has magical views and so much outdoor and patio space with beautiful gardens and shrubs. Three choices of outdoor dining spaces and each seats eight people. This is our second time here and we love it. Pool is wonderful with more fantastic views. Wonderful catering available with charming Serena. She made gluten free meals for our group. Thank you Annie for all your help!

The house and its surroundings were absolutely beautiful. There was lots of room and the house was very clean. The grounds were immaculate. The pictures don’t do the place any justice! You will be in awe. We had Serena cook for us one evening and if I could do it again, I would have asked her to cook multiple evenings. The food was fantastic and it was so nice and relaxing to have her cook for you while you just enjoy the atmosphere and a glass of wine.We were two families with 4 adults and 4 children and the place was perfect.We would not hesitate to book this house again and would stay even longer next time.

Outstanding villa

We had the most amazing time in an outstanding villa with stunning views and sunsets. The villa is spacious and very comfortable, plenty of areas to eat outside, a large shared swimming pool that was never busy and beautifully tended gardens. Honestly the best villa we have stayed in. Perfect for 6 to 8 people and everything you need provided to cook in or bbq. It’s a 10 minute drive down a dirt track but worth it! Great villages nearby and close to Siena and Florence (1 hr by car). Thank you Anna and Paul

Beautiful home in Chianti with exceptional views

An Unforgettable Chianti Escape in the heart of Chianti was nothing short of magical.If you're looking for an authentic, luxurious, and truly relaxing Tuscan getaway, look no further. It feels wonderfully secluded and peaceful, yet it's just a short drive to charming hilltop towns like Greve in Chianti, Panzano, and Castellina in Chianti.You can easily explore local wineries, enjoy delicious meals at some fabulous restaurants. The communication with Annie and Paul was excellent and we're looking forward to planning our next stay!

Authentic Tuscany Experience

First let me say Anne and Paul are great hosts. Having an additional onsite manager is a bonus. We were six adults and two young children. We were comfortable with bedrooms for all. Love having a king size bed. Sitting outside with a glass of wine watching the sun set over the vineyards is how we ended each day.

Wunderschöns Ferienhaus

Wir hatten einen wunderschönen Urlaub. Einziger Wermutstropfen war die geschotterte Zufahrtsstrasse, die durch wohl tagelangen Regen eine einzige Schlagloch-und Rillenpiste war. Für uns mit Allrad kein Problem, für unsere Mitreisenden ohne Allrad schon.

Wonderful location in Tuscany

Everything you would expect from a Tuscan Villa and more. Jacky and Annie communicated very well, the Villa was well stocked, the pictures don’t do justice to the view, and the pool was great. We stayed during the hottest part of July (upper 90s every day) and the Villa stayed at a comfortable temperature with fans for use at night. One note is that we suggest a small 4 wheel drive SUV if you plan to visit Vineyards. Many of them with the views are at the top of gravel road hills and while a big car would not be good, having 4-wheel drive is helpful. As many have mentioned, we had Serena cook one night and probably should have just hired her for the whole week. She was great! We can’t recommend this place enough and we hope to be back!

Tuscany Magic!

This is a beautiful home on a stunning property with sprawling views of the Tuscan countryside. The pool was the ideal place to unwind and cool off after a day of exploring the surrounding towns and sights. The home itself was ideal for our family and everyone had their own lovely bedroom and bath. We enjoyed cooking meals in the well appointed kitchen and eating outside in the evenings as well as watching the sunsets and admiring the views with a glass of Chianti. Paul and Annie were friendly and helpful during the booking and check in process and providing restaurant recommendations as well. Wonderful hosts and an out of this world stay. We can’t wait to return!

Beautiful Tuscan property

The property is set upon a hill, surrounded by vineyards and offers amazing views. This 4 bed 4 bath property has everything you could possibly need for a home from home stay. The outdoor areas are wonderful for enjoying a home cooked meal and a glass of Chianti Classico. We had Serena cook for us one evening- wonderful! The swimming pool area is lovely with ample sun loungers, bathrooms and showers. Both the owner and the property manager were easy to contact and gave us all the information we needed. We stayed for 10 days and visited many of the surrounding towns. Perhaps our only issue is that we had no clean linens during our stay. We would definitely recommend this property for a peaceful holiday.

50th Anniversary Getaway

What a great place, and serene locale, to have a month to relax, enjoy family, soak up the culture and the life style. Le Bagnaie gave us an experience we will remember for the rest of our lives. The villa we stayed in offered us room to spread out, a fantastic view of the surrounding countryside(since it is located on top of a hill), a well appointed kitchen, which Serena, our local chef used multiple times to prepare meals. It did not matter whether it was just for 2 or as many as 8 of us. Fresh, locally sourced meals with multiple courses, greeted us for breakfast or dinner time. Even though our stay spanned a period from mid May to mid June, we were able to enjoy the huge pool and the grounds for nearly the full time frame. IT did not hurt that the weather was near perfect, and even if there was a passing afternoon of evening shower, the fair winds and surrounding countryside and mountain ridges seem to make more brief interludes. While other guests also stayed in other areas in this fully refurbished farmhouse complex, we were rarely aware that others were around. Private patios, a flower garden both in front and behind the villa, make this place a special experience. .

Wonderful villa with spectacular views

We absolutely loved Anne’s gracious house, which was spacious and well appointed. Thoughtful amenities and a well equipped kitchen helped us cook some great meals, and the surrounding countryside provided plenty of hill villages and restaurants and walks. We felt we could have spent a month here. Thanks to the host!

Takes your breadth away

Ths whole experience lives up to all expectations. Annie was very helpful throughout the process and the house and property are like the photos. We all joked that we did not need to go see other views because we had the best view in Tuscany in our backyard! The property is very tranquil and centrally located for day trips. The house worked well for our group of 7 and we look forward to returning!
