Our stay at Canon de la Vieja was...weird. The reception desk did check us in efficiently and shared some pertinent details about the property. But what staff failed to share was also rather important, e.g. where our room was (they showed us on the map but then we were left on our own to figure out a rather circuitous arrangement of cabins) and how to unlock the surprisingly tricky (and backwards!) lock on the cabin door. It was only our luck that there was a staff member outside the cabin next to us who let us in - didn't say a word, by the way, just opened it and left. We then entered a very simple, underwhelming room inclusive of many, many bugs and paper thin walls. Lastly, as we entered the restaurant for dinner we were ushered in to a different place and then left awkwardly standing next to a pool bar. We were not greeted and were left to our assumptions. Eventually, our server was lovely and the food was, well it was ok. This was our last stop on our trip through Costa Rica and my husband and I were only staying one night to be closer to the airport in Liberia for our next morning flight out. Let's just say that I'm glad we weren't planning on staying any longer. I would've been more accepting of the rustic facilities if there had been a little more hospitality involved.

The property was a very typical Costa Rican Lodge. Beautiful location along a very nice river, off the beaten track away from loud city noise. The convenience of offering rafting, tubing, zip lining rappelling, spa service etc all in one place is very nice. It is reasonably priced for activities and the restaurant is very good. A nice buffet breakfast is included. Nice swim up bar and pool are. Service was prompt. As I stated earlier, the lodge was typical and can use a little updating. It had old school louvered windows and half of them had broken handles to open and close them which made it difficult for the A/C to be of optimum performance. Our entrance door dragged a little on the floor about halfway open, but a little lifting and it opened fully. If would be nice to have a mini fridge in the rooms. Hot water worked well! Overall, I really liked the place though. Staff was very friendly and the grounds were very pretty. I will be back with the kids next time to enjoy the activities offered.

This is a really lovely full service resort with many adventure options, spas, pool, bar and restaurant. No need to leave! The staff were very friendly and helpful. I look forward to returning. The only thing a bit difficult is getting to and from the LIR airport. Thank you!

Nature and bugs are inseparable. Still, the red ants crawling on the walls of the room were a little uncomfortable. The service was great though.

No hot water to shower for 2 days! Called the front desk on the 1st night they said housekeeping is off duty. Next day we were out all day for our adventures and when we returned still no hot water. 1st night dinner at their restaurant the whole lodge lost power for few hours. We ate dinner in the dark, it was kind of adventurous. Dinner was ok.

Très bel endroit, vraiment magnifique! Seul bémol est qu’un employé est entré dans la chambre quand le check-out n’était pas encore fait et a prit le fil de charge de notre téléphone qu’on avait oublié, on a pu le récupérer mais on se demande pourquoi quelqu’un est entré si le check-out n’était pas fait!

Du får hvad du betaler for...og det var ikke godt
Overskriften må være...du får det du betaler for. Slidte værelser, særligt badeværelset...som dog var rene. Det samme kan man ikke sige om poolområdet og de forskellige bade nede ved floden. Personalet synes ikke at bekymre sig om at holde området rent. Vi spiste aftensmad en gang...og det var en gang for meget. Det smagte ikke godt. De resterende 2 aftener kørte vi ind og spiste i Liberia. Personalet virkede uengageret og absolut ikke serviceminded.

At first I thought it had a bit of a weird vibe, because it clearly caters to big groups, but this was actually a bonus because the groups don’t stick around during the day, which means we had the pool area all to ourselves. The pool area was really nice. The restaurant had a pretty basic menu, and the food was ok, not great, but well priced. Rooms were also basic, but clean and met all our needs. We stayed three nights and did the La Leona Waterfall tour in Curubande and walked at the Rincon de la Vieja National Park. With a car, the lodge was well located for this. Also very close to Liberia and the airport, but still felt rural, out of the way, quiet. The grounds were also nice, treed. Zip lining at the lodge looked fun.

Overall really good experience nice pool, good breakfast friendly staff we checked in almost when they closed the reception- didn’t have towels in room and no one seemed to be able to get us any with reception closed

This has an eco lodge feel to it, so don’t expect anything fancy. However, we enjoyed our stay and had fun doing the activities. The grounds are very pretty and there is a lot of nature all around. The staff was just okay. Not as outgoing or friendly as we have found other places and the communication wasn’t great. For example, we never did figure out how to use the mud baths because no one was available to help us. But, overall, it was a fun place to stay with my kids and I’m glad we went.

Great accommodation, 1/2 h from Liberia Airport by taxi. We had 2 rooms in one separate cottage in the middle of dry forest. We didn’t see for years such a beautiful Sky at night with so many starts. Clean air. Good breakfast. Great package for activities. Very accommodating front desk with each and every request. Overall- very good Expirience.

Loved our stay but hardly any guests, just bus tours for day use. They only turned on waterfalls in pool when tour buses came to zip line. Never for us who actually paid to stay there and wanted to swim. Food was excellent and well prepared. Lots to see and do.

Habitaciones muy amplias, cómodas, limpias y seguras. El hotel está rodeado de una intensa naturaleza y paz. Tiene piscina y tambíen un área de "SPA" donde se puede esfoliar con barro volcánico, sauna y piscina termal. Las habitaciones no cuentan con TV ni un minirefrigerador para mantener agua fría o las bebidas de su gusto. Ubicado en una zona muy agradable y perfecta. Puedo decir que está a la mitad del camino entre el volcan Rincón de la vieja y Liberia centro.

Such a fun way to end our stay in Costa Rica! With two different flight departure times for our group of four adults and four kids, this beautiful property was the perfect spot close (30 minutes) to the airport. The Costa Rican lodge-type cabins, thermal soaking pools, swimming hole, pool, and breakfast buffet made it an extra treat for the kids rather than a boring hotel overnight. Kudos to the staff for a lovely, simple, friendly, “jungle adventure”.

Beautiful and green resort located close to Rincon de la Vieja National Park. The pool, pool bar, and restaurant are great. Situated on the Colorado River, the property is made up of air conditioned wood cabins. The natural pools and diving area on the river are beautiful. We loved the place and would stay here again.
