Anyone wishing to cross the River Ribble could hail him (even from the opposite shore) He would then row people across the river for a few pence. Because of the ferry and the proximity of Hacking Hall the place was known as "Hacking Boat"

The spa was welcome after a long days travel. Food in the restaurant was lovely. Table service for hot breakfast food is a nice touch. Rooms are a bit dated and the pillows were really lumpy and very uncomfortable. Staff really helpful and accommodating

The hotel was very beautiful old building. The apartment was spatious, bathrooms were very nice, but the sofa bed was very uncomfortable and the temperature in the room was too high. Windows couldn't be kept open because of the terrible smell from the cows next to the hotel!
