”The thermostat to the radiators didn’t work so we couldn’t turn the temperature down and were therefore uncomfortably hot and got limited sleep. The mattress added to the lack of sleep as it was very uncomfortable. The door to our room you could close from the inside with a hard shove but you couldn’t close from the outside so we couldn’t leave anything valuable in the room. ”Comfy room, generous towels. Arrived late Friday evening, no bother getting a table in the pub downstairs for food- they don't take table reservations, so I wasn't at a disadvantage. Good wide choice on the menu and attentive service. There was a nightwatchman for after hours- what a treasure! He showed me how to access once the pub was closed, helped me empty the bags from the car and carried them to our room all with a friendly, nothing was too much trouble approach. ”Easy to check in. Was very surprised how well kept and clean the room was and actually matched the photos, very impressed. Also very quiet considering it is right next to the A1. On returning from a wedding we had the pleasure of speaking with Michael on reception who is a credit to the hotel, fantastic hospitality and chat, such a laugh! Will definitely stay again if needs be. ”

”If you’re disabled or just an older guest beware the rooms have not been reviewed by an appropriate person. I found the bathroom a death trap. No grab rails in the shower but the worst was the slippery floor in the toilet with nothing to grab onto when struggling to arise from the toilet. My husband had to help me but not before on making an attempt my feet slipped and I finished up with a nasty fall and a now painful back. At 2am I had to ring reception I was frozen- the radiator didn’t work...

”Stayed for 3 nights over New Year...was absolute bliss. Late booking and the communication was brilliant to get it sorted. Cottage was immaculate throughout with everything we needed. Perfect location for walks, and yet only 5 minutes from shops and Durham centre Will be returning again for sure...thank you.”
