”We spent two nights in a boutique type hotel Volcanes. It was located in the very center of Alajuela. It’s a small family run hotel with a good friendly english speaking staff. Breakfast is served by your order and it certainly is fresh. Rooms are very tidy as all the public areas. You can find rooms for different price categories. We liked it very much. ”

”It rains quite often, so there is always water in the waterfalls, which are quite magnificent. You can handfeed toucans and hummingbirds in the park. In the hotel room's balcony there is a hummingbird feeder so that you can watch them very close. The tour to volcano Poas was a disappointment. The staff advised us to reserve the tour on a previous day, when you have no idea about the weather in the mountain. We didn't see anything there.”

”Well maintained classy hotel on top of the hill overlooking San Juan. Nice coffee trail starts from the door. Pool is very small and was out of function. The only dinner place around is hotel's restaurant. The food was good but clearly overpriced.”

”The resort area was huge, I really liked the trails that lead to the 5 waterfalls in the resort area, though the trails can get really muddy if it rains. The sunset pool was under renovation. The buildings are a bit outdated, but the room itself was nice and spacious, and had good amenities. Terrace had sunbeds, and the view was towards the city of San Jose. Note that there’s no air con, only a fan. I can warmly recommend also the spa. Staff was extremely friendly, and I found my one night stay...

”This hotel is basic, a room and a private bathroom, but that is all we needed. We were there one night as a waystation to where we were going from the airport. There was no staff on site at night or in the morning when we were there. I don't speak Spanish. Fortunately another guest helped us arrange a taxi to our car rental. Note: This room does not have any view from a window except of the wall of the building next door six inches away. ”

”Perfect base for visiting the Poas Volcano and other sights in the area. From the hotel you can see the volcano so no guessing the weather and it's just a short ride to the national park. The hotel and rooms are modern and cozy, nice sofas with small fireplace to enjoy in the lobby area. Good restaurant.”

”We stayed at the Berlin on our way back to Canada. Spotless room. Really lovely, helpful staff. She booked us an airport taxi for very early the next morning. They were up when we were leaving at 5 am and gave us coffee and a take-out breakfast. We will stay there on our next visit.”

”This place could truly be excellent, however they just missed the mark in a few areas. 1) The restaurant food quality was almost good but they used toxic seed oils in everything. 2) We booked the sauna only to find it turned off and no towels for us. We turned it on ourselves, told staff to push our appointment back to the next half hour block. One hour after turning the sauna on it was 46°C inside, we hadn’t broke a sweat & staff came by to ensure we didn’t over stay our time limit. We...

”Sure there were a lot of hot tubs but there quite a few that wasn’t working. It seemed like they were in the middle of doing maintenance/ repairs. Do not book the Chalet if you are looking for clean and comfort. The couches were stained, the stairs to the loft is narrow and the walk same walkway was terrifying. You need a wristband to enjoy the “attractions” and you have purchase the breakfast at the reception desk. ”

”Outstanding stay! We came for the gardens, and they did not disappoint. They were beautiful and extremely well maintained. The gardeners were great and helped us locate some birds. We were equally impressed with the hotel. It is a lovely building with comfortable rooms. The restaurant is fantastic and the complimentary breakfast is wonderful. The staff were all friendly and helpful. ”

”Adriana, the property owner, was very welcoming. She covered all the logistics clearly and she also arranged for our shuttle to the airport which was very helpful. The room was basic but very comfortable. Our only issue was finding it as Costa Rica does not have street addresses. There was a map and description so we got close but needed help. Our taxi driver was able to phone Adriana for assistsnce.”
