We had an amazing stay at Punta Caliza. The staff are really friendly and welcoming, the pool is stunning and the beach club is amazing (it’s just a 3 min walk down the beach from the hotel and the food and cocktails are excellent). Each room has its own private plunge pool leading onto the main pool and there is a small bar / restaurant (I think the website advertises live music there but we never heard any during our stay).
There are a few small things I think could be improved though. Firstly, it would have been great to have more breakfast options (you can have either a local special or an omelette) and the coffee was really disappointing as someone who looks forward to their first coffee of the day! On the first day we were literally served brown water because we were told that the coffee machine wasn’t working and it didn’t get significantly better, to be honest. My boyfriend was told he couldn’t have a cappuccino on every morning of our stay. Also, our room wasn’t cleaned on the first day because the staff didn’t have a spare key. All these things are completely understandable but just not in keeping with the premium feel of the rest of our stay.
Lastly, the staff were very helpful in booking us an airport shuttle from Chiquila but unfortunately the company they booked us with (Genesis) does not seem reliable and were apparently unaware of our booking when we arrived. This made our trip to the airport slightly stressful! I’d advise not booking with them.
