We have been staying at this particular hotel for many years, always visiting from Maryland. Marriott hotels have always been—and still are—our favorite brand. This property was once our absolute favorite place to stay due to its excellent location close to NYC and its consistently high-quality service.
During this visit, we stayed with my mother, who was visiting from Poland, and unfortunately the experience was disappointing. She was surprised by the very limited breakfast selection, the fact that breakfast is only available until 9:30 a.m. on weekdays (many guests are on vacation and want to sleep in), and that food is served on paper plates. Even tea and coffee are served in paper cups. Both she and we travel extensively, and we have never encountered this in hotels throughout Europe, for example.
Another issue was housekeeping. While we understand that bed linens may not be changed daily, the room was not even straightened—trash was not removed, beds were not made, and basic amenities such as tea bags and sugar were not replenished. At the very least, the room should be made presentable.
Additionally, the pool was closed for maintenance during our stay. For two nights in a one-bedroom room, we paid $735. This raises a serious question: why are prices increasing while the quality of service is declining? There needs to be a better balance between cost and the level of service provided.
