Matkat – Kukuihaele

This place is an absolute dump. I don't think it would pass for a 2-star hotel in Europe or Asia. Don't book the ocean view room, the windows will rattle to a point where it's impossible to sleep with the slightest of waves. The prices are beyond ludicrous. Spent a few nights here, expecting this to be the dream Hawaiian getaway after trekking around the island - it was the worst hotel we stayed in. We had to change rooms 3 times to get something remotely habitable... this at a $400/night resort.

Absolutely loved everything about the Fairmont Gold experience. I would sincerely recommend staying with a Fairmont Gould, as there was an amazing breakfast, great staff, own concierge, nicer floor.. the food options for breakfast or actually a great money saver with really high-quality food versus going to the restaurants. Amazing food options at the hotel, great amenities. Snorkeling in the lagoon with sea turtles and hundreds of tropical fish. Luau on property.

This property’s location is probably one of the best in the Captain Cooks area, the views from the pool deck are stunning. Sarah’s breakfasts are one of a kind, fresh, healthy and a different taste everyday. At the Luana-Inn you’ll feel like at home, no room service but everything you need is available, just ask. The 2 cabins near the pool need acoustical insulation from the floor above. The Captain cook area is like a jungle, luscious green and beautiful winding roads to get to the property. At night is very dark and the closest place for diner is 30’ away down town so plan to buy before you get back from your excursions if you don't want to drive at night. Every single beach near and far has opportunity for snorkeling but bring proper water shoes. Overall we liked the property but we are pretty easy to please. Highly recommend the boat tours!
