Levanto, a city of pre-Roman origins, lies at the far north of the seductive villages of the Cinque Terre. The name Levanto comes from the medieval Latin levantem, east, meaning "a place east of Genoa". The town of Levanto has an interesting old town, many beautiful painted villas, a lively Wednesday market, good restaurants and shops. In the main square, Piazza della Loggia, there is a lovely 13th-century loggia. Levanto boasts a particularly mild climate. The long sandy beach is ideal for all seaside activities.
