”Wir hatten einen holprigen Start. Wir waren müde vom Laufen und als wir unser Zimmer bezogen, sahen wir, dass dies vergessen wurde zu putzen. Der Chef persönlich hat dies dann nachgeholt und es war schlussendlich alles sauber und in Ordnung. Das Essen im Restaurant Abends und das Frühstücksbuffet war sehr gut und reichhaltig. ”

”The place is an ancient inn in a wonderful spot of the countryside. Perfect for trips along Hadrian's wall or nice walks in the fields. No restaurants in the area except the inn's one, where it's possibile to eat until 8.30 pm. Excellent beer until late. The toilet area is really tiny, but the rooms are lovely.”

”Matfen Hall really is outstanding, my stay was faultless. All staff were so warm, welcoming and helpful- I was greeted upon arrival with a welcome drink and my bags were taken up to my room whilst I checked in and relaxed in the Great Hall. Every nook and cranny of this hotel is gorgeous, beautifully crafted and fabulously furnished, including the room I was allocated. It was a generous size bedroom and dressing area with a huge bathroom, stunning views and light and airy in the daytime but warm...

”Medi, the chef, and his wife, Daniella, run the Inn and gave us both a warm, friendly welcome. The room was tidy and clean and we both had good night's sleeps even though the room was above the pub..I recommend Medi's Eggs Benedict which was fantastic and he also catered in the evening with great home made food - I had the best fish and chips I've had for many a year..I'd recommend the Sunday roast too which was awesome and over generous...and reasonably priced... Next time we're in the area...

Although the signage to the entrance is not easy to see, you can argue that it is discreet and in keeping with the property; the location on Google and Hotels.com was accurate too. What a beautiful house, fabulous service, spacious and well equipped rooms and marvellous breakfast. And wonderful spaniels. Definitely bringing my wife with me next time!”
