Awful Experience – Avoid This Hotel
Our stay was extremely disappointing from start to finish. About 20 minutes before arrival, the hotel informed us of a “water issue” and suggested our booking might be cancelled, though the water had clearly been off before this late notice. After several hours travelling from Catania to Palermo, we arrived stressed and uncertain if we’d have accommodation for the night.
There was no proper check-in. No keys, codes, or guidance, and no staff to assist. We had booked a superior room but were placed in a smaller deluxe one that hadn’t been properly cleaned (we even found someone else’s underwear!), and the sauna had a nail sticking out of the floor, which I stepped on.
Later that evening, we were told to move again to an even smaller “minisuite” behind the check-in desk or face cancellation. We were woken at 8:45am demanding our decision. Breakfast was poor, consisting of a few pastries and dry ham sandwiches, seemed pre-made or store bought. There was no hot water for showers throughout our stay despite reporting it immediately.
The hotel’s “gesture of goodwill” was a €5 bottle of prosecco. The staff on WhatsApp were rude, hostile, and at times purposely unhelpful. Only one staff member on site tried to help, and her efforts were appreciated amid clear understaffing.
Upon departure, there was no proper check-out process, and we were briefly locked in the courtyard. Overall, this was a horrendous, unprofessional and distressing trip.
