Pentewan harbour. A view across Pentewan harbour, which was connected to St Austell by the Pentewan railway. China clay and tin were exported from here and coal was imported. The harbour fell into disuse when the entrance passage silted up in 1916.

Old harbour wall at Pentewan The entrance to Pentewan harbour was beyond this old harbour wall and is completely silted up. The St Austell River runs into the sea just in front. The beach is a very popular venue at Bank Holidays and weekends.
